pd130 injector issue or something else?

Hi all

About 2 months ago my car randomly became VERY rough at idle, wasn't sure what the hell happene . Had to rev pretty hard to smooth it out and limp home.

The car sat for 2 days before I took it to a garage. The car drove fine for a few miles but then it kicked in again.

Garage told me it was injector 4 had failed, be about £650
The car cost me £2000 so I took it away. They "reset" the injector (is this just in vagcom?)

And off I went. Well, the car ran fine for over 1000 miles until today when it happened again. I have a spare injector now from eBay but does this sound the injector or something else?

I would have thought if it has failed, it wouldn't last so long??

Any help appreciated, terrible timing, MOT in Nov and my only mate capable of fitting went offshore yesterday...:(

I had a similar issue and it could be a free or cheap fix

The wiring to the injectors is under the cam cover so is subjected to heat and oil, this can break the woring down.

Take the cover off, you will see where the injector loom plugs into the injecotr, you can disconnect these and spray a little wd40 in the connection.. It could be a loose or dirty connection.

Failing that it could be the loom, one on ebay now for £35.

I'd try those first as they won't cost you much if anything at all.

What the garage have probably done is scanned for faults, and it's thrown up a faulty injector. But if the signal isn't getting to the injector then it will appear faulty

If you need any help give me a shout

Hello!
Thanks for your detailed response. It turned out to be a damaged loom. Took it 150 miles to a mechanic I trust :) the last person clearly isn't a problem solver as diagnostics said...cylinder 4 misfire, injector unit electrical malfunction

Anyway
Thanks again, its all being sorted as we speak, plus 2 CV boots and a drop link for MOT day

Good news then mate, that's the problem with some garages, they read a fault and don't look into any other factors that may cause it.

Glad it's a cheap fix :)
