PD130 Timing belt change

Hey guys,

My car is currently sitting at 62K ... I was going to pass on getting the timing belt done until 80K as a number of my friends have done with their TDI's.

But I got a bonus from work recently and was thinking perhaps as a safety measure just get it over and done with?

Obviouslly want to get it as cheap as possible, I beleive I should also get the water pump done at the same time? My car goes into the bodyshop this Wednesday to get a little kink in my roof removed... costing me a whopping £200!

The Seat dealership is right at the front door of my work so that would be ideal but am I likely to get robbed? Cheaper going to a Skoda dealership perhaps I beleive the change on the Furby vRS is cheaper than the Mk4 Sport & FR.

Seat recommend that it's done at 60k, so I wouldn't push it to 80k tbh. If it snaps then the cost of rebuilding an engine is going to be a lot more than what it cost you to replace it...

You could take it down to the VW specialist on Clark Street in Paisley mate, I've heard they are quite good and probably more reasonable than any of the dealers.

Think you maybe talking about the one in Millarston ( behind the BP garage?). It's not that one I meant, I've never heard anything about that one though.

The one I'm thinking of you would get to by coming off at St James and heading into Paisley, when the road goes from 2 lanes to 1, take the next road on your right, thats clark st and I'm sure the VW place is there on the rights somewhere.

change mine today, only done 43,000 but as my car is on an 02 plate and hadn't been changed before i bought the car i thought i'd get it done.
good job really because it looked as if it wasn't going to last much longer!
certainly wouldn't try doing 80k on 1 cambelt in any car!

Mine was done at 30k, car 03 plate, its 60k or 4 years on the belt

where did you get yours done and how much ?

done 55,000 miles in mine,so its due to be changed soon.

my mates who's a mechanic did it cash in hand.

he does quite a few foreigners, i can ask him if he'll do yours and get a price if you like

I was quoted £175 for my Toledo. That was a Non-PD TDI 110.

I know where ya mean Brian, off St.James, take the right - basically come back on yourself then its round about the St.James Station somewhere?

I will take a little look round and see what I can find

Another thing... on my Mk2 Ibiza 1.4 16V (Mk4 Polo Engine) I paid £85 to have my timing belt changed and also my cylinder head gasket

Getting my x gaffer to do mines.

£250 is dear for a on the side job.

Mines just turned over 50k last night so need it done pronto

My 60k service is coming up soon which includes timing belt and brake fluid change (optional) among other things- quoted £ 500 by my local Seat service dealer.

That's the total price, which includes parts and labour.

I had my cam belt changed on my PD130 at 41,000 miles at the recommendation of my garage mate. The handbook says 60,000 - but if you look....thats kms not miles!

60000 miles or 5 yrs is what I`ve been told, as for £250 for cash, you may as well go to a garage and get a guarantee/warrenty if it goes wrong, I have heard of them going on recently changed ones I have had one done on my last tdi 110 ibiza at a specialist (midland vw) cost £150, (Seat £250 and vw quoted £350) that was 18 monhts ago........

4 years or 60k miles Skoda, Audi and Seat told me, all across the range now I believe?

Well guys I phoned round a number of places and managed to book into the cheapest - which by luck is a garage I've used before and trust.

It's costing me £300 to have the timing belt changed, and also the water pump.

Aparently the timing belt, tensioner and also the pulley is changed - the dealership or garage order the parts in as a kit, and the labour is 3.5 to 4.0 hours.

The Skoda dealership charged the same as Seat... £360 (They added in "ish" and I don't like "ish"). When I asked the Seat dealership why its done as a kit and not individually they said the tensioner tends to go about the same time as the belt and they had a high number of returns doing the belt alone. I thought this was BS and asked the Skoda dealership and the guy said the exact same thing!

Just a note to ensure when you get yours done, it'll cost a fortune and may as well ensure they do the kit, and not just the belt.
