I have got an 08 FR PD170 and it looks like my back box hasn't got much life left in it due to a large rust patch.

When it finally gives up I was thinking about going to a twin exit back box like the cupras, has anyone done this before and how hard is it to do? I have got a BTCC body kit fitted so thought the twin exit would look nice.

Any before and after pics would be good if you have them

Hi mate i have the same problem with mine
I am getting a new one fitted tomorrow but having the backbox removed as it is very restrictive
This is known as mufflertechonemy and can see gains of 10bhp and only costs of about £100 so seems worthwhile

Hi mate, thanks for that. Where are you getting it from and will it make the exhaust louder?

I'm thinking of getting this done to mine, already had my dpf removed so all that's left restricting the exhaust is the backbox but I don't want it to be stupidly loud.

If possible could you post a video once you've had it done, be really interested to see how it sounds.

I've had the backbox removed on my PD170. Not noticed any increase in noise inside the car but I've listened to the wife booting it and it sounds very "jet engine-like". I wouldn't say there is any increase in power but it does seem to pick up a little better.

I don't really want it to be much louder than it is as standard. If my PDF packs up I will going for a remap and a delete so don't want to get a mega expensive back box, maybe a custom made one would be a good option???

Okay had it done today and tgere is noise change at all! Was expecting more turbo whine but nothing turbo spools a bit quicker but thats it

Here's mine, not much to see to be honest. Slightly bigger than standard

What does that sound like? That's exactly how mine will be when I get round to getting it done.

I decatted and removed the centre box on my pd140 passat but left the standard backbox and it didnt sound very good.

Inside the car it sounds no different at all. The only time it does sound very "meaty" is when it's doing a passive regen, it really turns heads! I've listened to my missus giving it a blast when I've followed her in the Focus ST and it sounds a bit like a jet engine, only way I can describe it. I'll try and do a video when my phone has charged up a bit.

Looks good mate, nice and subtle. That's not what I want to do to mine though, I am thinking of having a pipe either side of the car like the early R32?

Going by the size of the cut out on the left of my bumper, I may have to go for oval tailpipes to fill the gap :wonder:

Personally I wouldn't go for twin oval, it'll look crap. Either have one 4" or so either side, oval in the middle or twin jet on one side like I have. Personal taste though!

I know what you are saying, not sure if 4" will fill the gap though? Need to go and look at some tail pipe designs and go from there.

Don't suppose anyone knows if an early R32 back box fit on a Leon?

Here' mine i have noticed a wee grumble on start up but NO! Turbo noise sounds exactly the same but my engine /turbo are well maintained so don't know if that means my turbo doesn't whine much?
Had my tips ofset to go more with the curve of the bumper

That would only look good if you get a rear bumper insert off a btcc kit cos the cut out is massive! 7" wide

I have had a look and it is all part of the bumper :(

Looks like I will have to think of a plan B
