PD170 UFI fuel filter leaking

I recently swapped my fuel filter when servicing the car, however tonight as I was topping the washer fluid up I noticed a pool of diesel under the filter housing.

I took it apart, checked the seal was ok and that the filter was ok and they were. Re-fitted everything and now it leaks more than it was?? I noticed the top of the housing wasn't sitting flush with the main body, so I straightened it out and this made it worse still.

All the 5 torx/star screws/bolts are as tight as they'll go but its still leaking, but only at the top right side (roughly 1-2pm on a clock face) and seems to be leaking from the underside of the lip and where the screws/bolts go through the main body housing.

Has anyone had any similar experience with this? I'll get a new filter on Tuesday and see if that makes a difference.

Really frustrating as I was supposed to be driving to London tomorrow.

From what I've read about this type of filter housing, it says not to use a screwdriver to lift the top away from the housing which is what I did. Sounds like its caused a gap in the top and preventing it from sealing 100%.

I'm away tomorrow so will have to leave it until Tuesday. Really hope its not going to need a new housing.

Spent an hour and a half on it in the dark and gave up. Filter should be fine as its the same as the one that was there prior to servicing.

Is the seal a genuine or aftermarket seal? seem cheap aftermarket seals that are slightly the wrong size as they are made to fit multiple models. failing that if you have applied to much pressure when you levered the housing up you may have slightly warped it you may also have the top of the filter slightly off centre if you tightened one bolt tight before doing the rest I usually get all the bolts started by hand then use a star pattern as you would do a wheel.

seen this so many times. The lid is warped. you can try a new seal but most of the time a new housing is required.

I always use plenty of Lm grease on the seal and housing to prevent the seal from snagging and apply any downward force to the centre of the lid, not the edges.

If you've tightened the screws before the lid was tight and flush then it will be bent/warped. Seen it so many times. Make sure it's down flush first by pushing it down hard with your hands then tighten the screws and get a pair of pliers and squeeze the lid tight to the housing all over then check for leaks.

You need to be careful with fuel leaks as contaminating the Cambelt can cause disastrous issues. Glad it's sorted.
