I've only got about 15 miles on the clock like so i can't really comment on performance!

Suspension is alot better than my pre-FL, standard radio doesn't look cheap any more. Some nice subtle changes. I'm happy anyway!

Right, so i've got about 1200 miles on it now and with the snow/ice gone i can try putting my foot down a bit!

My first impressions are that it doesn't quite feel as fast as my PD170 did but has benefits, swings and roundabouts. A quick examples...

Accelerating full pelt in 2nd and 3rd - The CR170 doesn't throw you back in your seat as the PD170 did and i feel like it doesn't accelerate as quick. Positive is that the traction is a hell of a lot better, my wheels used to just spin in 2nd on my PD170 so i didn't make as much progress (if you know what i mean). The PD170 in 3rd gear used to run out of breath at around 4500rpm, whereas the CR170 is still going upto 5500rpm (until i backed off).

I think that the CR170 is more linear with it's acceleration, a bit more 'petrol like', and because of this you don't quite realise how fast you're going. Compared to the PD170, when you're thrown back you definitely feel like you're going fast, the CR170 makes progress without the umph.

I'm hoping it opens up a bit with the more miles i put on it, as like i said i don't 'feel' like i'm going as fast. It's made me think a little bit about a remap like which i never really did with my old one :think:

i agree, not as punchy but im starting to learn thats not a bad thing in the real world. Get it remapped, had mine done and now its brilliant. Had the PD remapped and it made the punchyness even more extreme but looking back that made it more uncontrollable. The linear revs of CR are really complemented with remap, like you say she gets to some extreme speeds and i can stay in gear and use it longer, instead of having to change up all the time to get the torque back in the breathlesser PD.

Also if you miss the punchyness you can put some of that back in with a good remap, so best of both worlds for me now really.

Yeah i agree, i feel like i'm not getting there as fast but i don't know if i actually am :lol:

The other half think's it's a slower car, but she won't entertain me getting a remap. No win situation there then :whistle:

Talking remaps, i've looked at a few prices recently.
Revo = £368
P-Torque = £295
Shark = £465(?)

To me P-Torque is the most appealing (skint for xmas), but i don't know what one i'd want to go for :shrug:

Dont know about P-Torque price but the shark price you have quoted is with VAT and i would check the P-torque cos thats cheap, and the Revo is normally £468, but there having a xmas sale....

Comming up to 1500 miles now, loving the linear power delivery much more controlable in this crap weather.
Not really been able to push the revs up beyond 4k, I'll give it a few more miles first.
The diff lock/ traction control also seem much better, but I need to see what its like a snow free road.
Mpg, between 2 and 4 better than the PD170, before the weather turned cold I was getting 44mpg, now it's dropped to 40. I was hoping it would be alot better than the PD.
It does take a long time to warm up, some days with the outside temp at -10 the guage has not got to 90 degrees after a 20 mile crawl at no more than 30mph.
I think the new dash and white dials are much easier to read, flat bottomed steering wheel, the jury is still out can't decide if If I like it or not.
The standard radio is fine for me, I have a 30Gb hard drive plugged in to the USB works a treat.
So overall with the softer ride I think the car is a big improvement as family transport, but i did love the hard ride and umph of the PD which made you think you were driving a racing car!!

Silly question probably but how will i know the one i am looking at tomorrow is a CR or PD? Does it go on age?

If its the 62 plate FR+ you mentioned in your other post, it'll be a CR. No question. PD's are normally pre facelift iirc, f/l came in around 2010. I'm pretty sure the CR engine was introduced around the same time.

My 59 is CR, common rail. As said in loads of posts. The power delivery is so linear and smooth aswell as the quietness, you don't actually realise what speed you doing in a CR if that makes sense, they map lovely too

The more and more we map them the more I love them. Loads superior than the PD engines iny opinion. Suppose it's just like comparing the 20vt to a Tfsi really
