It doesn't only happen too others as they say. Guess this has been my time!
'07 Leon FR TDI, 80.000Km
Later today, commuting to the work place, half way there, going as usual around 90Km/h in fifth, the engine suddenly started juddering severely with a not so healthy knocking sound.
No warning lights of any kind came up. Judging by the dash, the car was fine.
Disengaged the gearbox into neutral, the symptoms continued so, coasted for a few meters and parked as soon as possible. Engine turned off.
Tried turning it on a couple of times after that, in between phone calls, and it kept the same symptoms. Severe juddering and knocking sound. Like an old engine when they start to rattle every joint they have. Also seemed to have some trouble turning over.
I had some important issues to solve and really had to get to my work place. Called a near family member which could provide a ride and left the car parked for a couple of hours.
Afterwards phoned the insurance company and requested a tow to the regular dealer where the car is serviced.
Started the engine to get it to the tow and also to check if still presented the same issues. As usual with technology, the symptoms were way inferior from what I had experienced earlier. The engine was also cold by now. It had a rough start but seemed to become better afterwards.
It's weekend, so I didn't want the car to sit parked away from home, neither was it helpful parked at my doorstep. It's the only one I have and I really need it. Don't really know if I exaggerated having it towed to the dealer as this has been the first time there have been problems that made me think twice before moving a car/using its engine but didn't want to take a chance and eventually end up paying a lot more.
It will be sitting at the dealer until Monday, when they are able to give a look as what may have happened.
The car has always been properly assisted at the spec'ed service intervals and on official dealers. It isn't driven like it has been stolen nor like if its the Vicar's car. Just a really regular use. The fuel tank was at half, so I guess fuel issues, like having bad fuel could be ruled out. And it also has been using the same fuel from the same pump for a couple of years now.
Out of curiosity, I'll have two days for any kind of info, have you guys got any ideas and theories on what may have happened?
I just really hope these aren't the dreaded injector problems.
