Just read in the current Auto Express their Ultimate Tyre Test, that the replacement for Michelin Pilot Super Sports the Pilot Sport 4 has beaten all the rest. That includes Pirelli P Zero, Contisport Contact 5, Dunlop SP Sport Maxx RT2, Goodyear Eagle F1 Asy 3 and more.

So that is now the Ultimate tyre for all you 280/290 drivers out there, the PSS is dead long live the PS4.

The PS4 is not a replacement for the Pilot Super Sports. They are still sold. The PS4 is a replacement for the PS3.

If you look at Michelins website they still recommend the PSS for the Leon Cupra. I know I will be replacing the PSS on mine for another set of the same. They have been immense!!

The Pilot Sport 4 isn't the replacement for the Pilot Super Sport.
The PS4 is the true replacement for the PS2's (forget the PS3's - they're a road tyre only and didn't replace the PS2 as most assumed).
The Pilot Super sports sit above the PS4's still, with the new PSS's coming out in Q1 2017 and the Cup2's sitting above them.

I currently run PSS's on my Megane 225 and they are by far and away the best tyres I've ever used.
The dry grip is sensational with great feedback with the wet grip being so good as to border on ridiculous!
If only SEAT would fit PSS's as standard and not an odd mix of Pirellis and Contisport 5's.
I asked SEAT UK what tyres would be fitted to the newly built 290's and they just said "...dunno, a premium brand tyre." Helpful...

According to the Michelin uk tech manager, the PS4 is a few tenths slower on a 2,4km dry track, but better everywhere else than the PSS.

So depending if you enjoy your car more on track or also drive when conditions are less than ideal, you can pick the PSS or the PS4. I love driving in the rain too...

Very happy with my PS4, definitely better everywhere than the SC5 that came on the car.

Also a quote from Michelin:

The Pilot Sport 4 builds on the success of the Pilot Super Sport, and also takes lessons Michelin have learnt as the sole tyre supplier for the Formula E series, meaning the new Pilot Sport 4 is once again more inline with the "Pilot Sport" ethos. Think of it as a brother to the Pilot Super Sport, and a cousin of the Pilot Sport 3.

Basically, it's a sh1t hot tyre any which way you look at it!

Michelin says that "a mid-life refresh for the Super Sport evolved into the Pilot sport 4" they said it and they make it. It is a brand new tyre and some stocks of PS Sports will still be for sale, but it is not a replacement for the Pilot Sport 3, I have read the article, you obviously haven't.

P-Zero's aren't necessarily a bad thing - they came 2nd to the PS4's]

Thanks for sharing. Not many reviews for the p zero tyre yet so was wondering how it fared.

I'm pretty happy all in all. Have a dtuk box on now and the car can easily still handle it in the dry. Haven't had a proper test in the wet yet though it coming top on wet cornering grip definitely fills me confidence

If Michelin is confusing, the P Zero is much worse again, seems like there exist at least twentyeleven versions of it, you're never really sure which one you're dealing with...

OK, seems like Summer tires issue is resolved, however what is your opinion on winter tires? I know it is the middle of summer, however I would really love to gather some opinions. Should I stick with the 18" or is it better to buy 17", which one to go for etc....

Yep, at least in this first test. Too bad I'm on 18", otherwise I would have tried the Conti SC6 available in 19" only (if it hasn't changed), now I remember. Anybody watched football last month, sometimes advertising is true?
Still like the PS4 :D

Once price is factored in I won't be getting these.
Don't get me wrong, I don't suggest cheap tyres, in the wet many are dangerous.
But I belive you can get very close to the performance paying 65% .
How many pay top price then run very close to legal limits as they try and eek out every mile of life...

Two different applications really; the Contis may have better grip in the wet and maybe stops quicker in the dry or something, but they'll be fried in 2 laps on a hot trackday, where the PSS will last at least 8. If you need them to last 20 laps, pick the Cup2. No trackday and just racing at some redlight, get Conti or whatever.
