Lovely car you have here, however I'm starting to feel very sympathetic towards myself for buying one of these engines lol.

My FR 1.4 TSI DSG , less tuned than the Cupra's, went in to an engine specialist 5 days ago.

Completely bog standard engine running 150bhp no mods, regularly serviced & maintained - has suffered the dreaded piston ring failure. Needs a complete engine rebuild, thankfully the plasma which coats the cylinder bores has prevented any further damage.

*Upgrading all 4 pistons to forged pistons so they can withstand stage 3 map.
*New radiator ... coolant leaking from radiator. Can't seem to find an intercooler for less than £300, might get a custom built one.

How often would you recommend changing plugs / coil packs? Spark plugs have been changed twice/three times, however have never touched the coil packs as they've never been an issue for me (touch wood). Going to upgrade to Bosch ones soon. Just bought some brand new NGK Platinums from Halfrauds x4 for £55, not the right ones need to swap again.

take em back to halfrauds, get on fleabay and go get some: NGK BKR7EIX 2667 plugs.

while u have the engine apart throw some ZRP/uprated rods in their for safety.

Hey pete I have the cupra myself but it has 128.000km on it and I don't dare myself to add much engine mods.
I ordered the Forge Spacer and it should arrive tommorow can't wait to install.

I'm on a low budget so I can't go for exhaust remap or anything atm.
I have a suspension kit laying around but no money to get it installed/no idea how to install it.

What performance mods would you suggest if it comes to low budget?
I hear about the universal intercooler being a cool one or the "DIY air filter".

DIY air filter is a great addition! and about the easiest mod to do honestly.

the suspension kit is real nice and easy to install dude. especially the rear its so simple.

and 128k is fine, mines 91k miles(146KM)
