Hi

I went to fill up the other day and unscrewed my petrol cap as normal and then it just dropped off. Turns out the rubber string that connects the screw cap to the car has snapped.

Has this happened to anyone else? Or does anyone know where I can buy another from? Can't imagine it would be too expensive...

Cheers in advance

mine looks like it is on its last legs tbh very degraded. might claim it under warranty. its petty but at least ill get the right part.

Give Tesco a try, if they don't have them Asda might just. If neither of those have them, it's a long shot but your local Seat dealer may be able to help.......

This tickled me

There seems to be a spate of people having common sense failures/want everything just handed to them on a nice shiny, cheap, plate

wow... in stitches...

thought a forum was for asking for advice??

already been supermarkets and dealer and none of them could help so simply asked if anyone else had this issue and how they resolved it

back in your box now smart arse

Getting back on topic..

Mine has broken off just a few days ago..it has been on its last legs for a while now..the rubber cable has been badly degrading, I tried to be careful but just didn't last! It's not a big issue, as I can still fill up and the cap is still goes on, but it is just a tad anoying, and also only a matter of time before I leave the filler cap sitting at a fuel station!

Going to give the local Dealership a call on Monday, if lots of people are having this issue then it may be logged as a common fault so hopefully they won't ask too many questions (notice I say HOPEFULLY, Haha!)

That's just it, if something breaks while your cars under warranty why bother asking for advice on what to do, just ring your local dealer and get it sorted for free.
Any way :) I'll keep an eye on mine now it's a known weak spot,
Wonder if its perhaps more a petrol issue?

Mmm although they will have different cap sizes I would guess the plastic cable bit would be the same..hard to tell really but worth keeping an eye on..I'll let everyone know what the dealer says on Monday!

if you read my post i did say i've already spoke to the dealer. they were pretty useless and didn't have much of an idea.

ok... so out of your thousands of posts on here you've never asked for advice on an issue whilst your car was under warranty????

chill out man, no need to start arguments over a busted petrol cap. If the dealer isn't interested then make them interested. this is just something ill bring up when i book a service next and merely say the cap has suffered deterioration can i have a new one under warranty.

Surely you must be rather careless if you lose your Petrol cap and keys at at petrol station . You would not be able to leave as car would not start without the keys and they are used to unlock the cap.

Use a piece of fishing line in the mean time. That should 'catch' the cap from falling while you're filling up. Just go back to dealer and ask for a replacement part and don't accept that they have no idea. Every single component on the car will have a stock number ... Get a new one ordered and problem solved.

That's why forecourts "really" have fire extinguishers, you can use them to smash the ignition lock off your car and then hot wire it, no problem!...........

PS.... My earlier post was not meant to be taken seriously ;)
