I want a SUV with a petrol engine and twin-clutch 'auto' gearbox. Not available in the Ateca and the VW Tiguan is only available with a petrol 2.0T (180hp), 4-wheel drive and DSG at a list price of over £32K!!!

Looks like I will have to look outside of VAG.

It's available in the Ateca but not in the UK. It's a bit stupid.

I don't know what plans Seat UK have. The 1.4 litre petrol has long wait times in the UK and across Europe.

You would expect Seat UK to twig the what you can order and prices I guess next year.

The long wait times for the 1.4 may be due to it being replaced in the 2017 model Golf by a new 1.5 COD 148bhp unit so fingers crossed we may yet get a 1.5 DSG in the Ateca.

I read recently that the new engine has been postponed for some time apart from the on new Golf. For example, the facelifted Leon due soon does not offer the new engine.

The only reason you cannot have a DSG version in the UK is because, for some weird reason, SEAT UK didn't want it. If the 1.5 engine does appear on other models there is no reason to think that they will not take the same attitude. There are big delays on the Tsi engine because of unprecedented demand in all the VAG cars, it is not an issue because of the DSG.

If SEAT UK changed their minds, a TSI/DSG could be back on the list tomorrow. Incidentally, you can specify a TSI/4 Drive elsewhere in Europe.

1.4 DSG at last

The configurator is now showing the 1.4 petrol DSG available in SE trim upwards. Hoo bloody ray. Price list and catalogue not caught up yet though. Still no alacantara - maybe some day in 2017?

I wouldn't bet on the alacantara, although available in the ROI I believe Seat UK management has a personal hatred of it, so the customer isn't right on this one. But we'll see. I was glad in the end I didn't have it when I had a coffee spill whilst looking for somewhere to put my mug. This time of year it's cold if you forget to put the heater on and it gets sticky on long drives even in winter. Summer, who knows.
