Just a question to gauge what you guys think. Does any one else here perhaps think that the petrol flap should have been flush with the body and not have the little exposed section where you put your finger in to open it? I still can't decide if it is ok or not. Just looking at the rear of the car you see that little protrusion and it justs seems to make the car feel lopsided. I dunno, maybe I am just being silly. What do you guys think?

i think the petrol flap looks nice, rather than being just plonked on, its been designed in nicely. thats one of the things EVERYONE points out to me when im parked
"look at the petrol flap it looks ace"

lamborghini designers eh?

it should be flush tho i reccon with a handle to open in the car somwhere

I look at my petrol flap and cap once every 8-10 days and it's the only aesthetically unpleasing aspect of the car. My last car's flap was flush with the body and was opened with a level inside the car. A much better option than having to use your finger and then also have to use a key to get the cap off.

At least the MK5 is a lot more symmetrical that the mk3 which has a big drivers side wing mirror and a small passenger side wing mirror.

That said the petrol cap is genious - its flush with the car, you just push it at one side and it opens, and it locks/unlocks with the central locking

So I guess I'll miss that when I get my mk5

I'd rather get a few finger prints on the car than have to stand fiddling with the cap's locking mech.

not me, im a clean freak, lost count of how many times i have washed it and IMO its not really hard to open it you just put a finger in and pull towards you, simples =)

Aye, will agree that the doors easy to open, still not as a good as an internally operated cap though! I embarrassed myself with the cap's locking mech when I first went to fill the car up because the dealership had left it unlocked. So when I went to open it I was locking it and then trying to open it. Doh... had to leave the forecourt without any fuel with my head hanging in shame until I could get home and work out what was wrong.

+1, not one of the best moments of my life, a forecourt of people looking at the nobhead in a brand new car not being able to operate it.

Same flap as everything else in the VAG range near enough.

Doesnt bother me tbh, but you could mod it somehow.

hahahahahahahahaha Nice one ppl. It is good to gauge how you all feel about it. I am not overly put off by it, just thought it would have look alot sleeker if it were in line with the whole body.

yeah maybe a button that shape would have been better, but everyone has their own views and we can all express them its also good to know how others feel

The locking petrol cap is just the same as the one on our scrappage car and that was a 17 year old Polo :)

Does anyone else generally leave their cap unlocked? it seems like such an arse unlocking/locking it every time (and at 270 miles to a tank, it's more often than it should be on a diesel... some of the boca boys are getting better economy than I)

Does the actual cap under the flap lock or not? If it doesn't then I would prefer to have the flap locked to save some idiot trying to be a twat and pouring sugar into your tank.................

the screw-cap behind the flap locks yes. im just lazy.

sugar sounds like it'd do all manner of **** to my engine.. is it a comon practice?

the flap dosnt lock, but the cap does
prersonaly i dont think it really matters. my mrs has a flap that opens with a handle in the car which is ok looks nice and flush but you could pop it open with a screwdriver, since the cap dosnt lock.
