petrol smell when start up

hi was wondering if anyone gets a smell of petrol when they start up there car in the morning? mine smells really bad off petrol when start it up. anyone else had if so how did you solve it... thankyou for any help

The first suspect should always be a leaking fuel filter. You'll find this behind the sill below the offside rear door.

Do you get the smell when your stationary at tickover too?

I had a really strong petrol smell for about a month, MPG dropped right down, then my engine light came on. Post cat Lambda sensor. Thats my experience of it! How old is the car? And mileage? Do you get any smoke when starting?

its when haun't started it for a day or so. Its on tick over an once engines warmed up its ok. Its a 52 plate with 55k on clock. I don't think its fuel leakin from filter smells more from front an in car. Would the sensor not show on wag ann

meant to say vag com using phone so cant allways see bottom line. Haun't seen fuel on floor. It smells like its running to rich.

Im not sure it comes up on vag com, its just when the lambda/ O2 senosr goes open circuit that youl know about it. Try it, you might have another code that comes up. Try cleaning your air filter, slight blockage or somethin. I had mine changed at 52K and it is a 52 plate. £89 for the Bosch sensor so dont get ripped off, 22mm ring spanner and jobs a gudden. Im not saying its that mate so correct me if im wrong.
