hi guys,
picking up my cupra on saturday and just wanted a few pointers on owning this vehicle. the dealer is carrying out a 40k on the car before i collect so i was wondering what they would do on this service so i can check if they have actually done it! do these cars burn oil and should i ever need to top it up if so what oil do seat use?

one last thing when starting from cold and turning the car off should i leave the car for any of amount of time to warm up and cool down. im just wanting the car to last me and will do checks and things to make sure its ok.

not happy with my dealer at present as i have seen one of their bodyshop guys spanking it near where i work! hope they didnt wreck it!

cheers everyone, mark

just to add, when i test drove the vehicle the airbag light was on, what would this be and would they need to replace a sensor? one more thing the a/c symbol was flashing on the climate control unit, what could that be?

Airbag light is probably due to the seats being removed at some point, you can clear that with vagcom. A/C flashing means the AC system is screwed, could be a leak, could be compressor, could be expensive.

If i was you i'd get the AA/RAC to come out and check it over. Sounds like it could be a money pit from the start. Or if you know someone with access to vagcom, take it with you and plug it in, clear the codes and take it for a spin and see which codes come back up. That way you'll have lots of ammo for knocking them down on price (unless its screwed, in which case walk away).

Sounds suspicious tbh, i'd want the car looked at properly if it was me.

wel i have purchased from the seat dealers themselves. they have informed me that the airbag light and a/c problem will be sorted before i pick it up. i have got from collection date a 6 month warranty too so should be ok.

the reason for purchasing it is thats it has only done 39k on an 02 plate and has had one owner from new with a full dealer history. do you think it sounds a good buy with them details in toe? the car hasn't been tampered with either so is completely standard!

cheers mark

Air bag light could also be saying airbag is faulty!

Yeah technically the air bag light means theres a fault with air bag system, could be anywhere tbh.

If your buying from seat, then i guess everything should be ok. But as a matter of course i'd get it on vagcom soon as you've bought it and see whats what. If they've sorted the problems then it shouldnt show any codes.

The AC light will start flashing straight away even after clearing the codes so check that when you pick the car up.

Also, i'd definatly get it checked out within your cooling off period. As if your buying from seat i'd expect it to be spot on.

make sure your warranty is parts and labour, not just head and gearbox type warranty.

Where abouts you located?

from derby and im buying from GK SEAT derby. surely if they clear the airbag light and there is still a fault wouldnt it come back on again to say its still there!?
