I have been told of a new scheme that is taking place worldwide, and a worldwide poll shows that the UK pays way more for petrol than any other country, so a group of people have started whats called a pipelione card, which if they win the arguement, which with over 100,000 members already i think they will, you can get between 5p and 10p off a litre of fuel (Thats every litre by the way) Sign up and get cheaper fuel which means more miles in your SEAT!!! The website is www.pipelinecard.org and it costs nothing to join.
The more people who join, the more discounts we are entitled to!!! Cheers all.

I've signed up for this already. But someone (on here, can't remember who, sorry) made tha valid point that the big petrol companies claim to only make 3p per litre at the pump. Therefore how can they offer a 5p or 10p discount per litre.

Don't get me wrong I hope they do! But I'm not holding my breath.

I think that is supposed to be money made from petrol alone, im sure i heard it on the news saying that they had made £12 billion at the pumps.

If it is right then it's a worrying amount when you think about, it's quite amazing how much of this stuff we keep using and how dependant we are on it.

Well i heard that the goverment takes 75p roughly per litre so where is the other 14-25p going? I pay between 90.9 and 96.9 per litre depending on garage.

if the government are taking 75p per litre you can't begrudge the oil companies that actually are investing in getting the crude oil etc etc a mere 15p per litre surely!!

DO'H! ... my maths is wrong...

So at 3p a litre profit ... £12billion / 3p a litre is 4billion litres....

So they sold 4billion litres in a year? Does that sound right?

Sorry, that's still wrong. What you have done is as if it is £3 per litre.

It should be 12,000,000,000 / 0.03 = 400,000,000,000 (400 Billion Ltrs)

On another note, say there are 40 million car owners in the UK (guess), and they all only ever used BP, the amount each person would buy on average is:

400,000,000,000 / 40,000,000 = 10,000 Ltrs per year or 192 ltrs per week!

When you think that there is also: Shell, Texaco, Esso etc, you can easily treble that figure, so that would be 576 litres of fuel a week per person then.

I dont think that the claims 'we only make 3p per litre' can somehow be true.

I think I need to find better things to do during my lunch hour...

Sorry "Vorderman" ;)

But you have pointed out that there is no way they can only be making 3p a litre... so I will let you off

Sorry for wrecking your lunch hour

:D

Lol. This also means that from fuel sales at BP alone, the government have made approximately £300,000,000,000 (300 billion). This is assuming 75p per litre to Gordon Brown.

Still, at least it's being used wisely, and we can boast the best road network in the world. Ahem.
