Planning on undersealing my Cupra R any tips anyone?

Hi everyone,

Going to get around to undersealing my LCR, I have bought some Schutz underseal got x6 500ml cans so that should be enough easy lol.

Just asking if anyone has got any good tips on the best way to underseal?

I now the leons usually go underneath the archs just like the mrk 4 golf that i used to have, so probs do behind the plastic covers under the wheel archs.

The cars come undersealed as standard. Best thing to do is to remove the plastic liners from the wheel arches and clean behind them.... Look for any paint work thats been rubbed off by the liners and repair.

Are you thinking of doing the whole underside ???

yes mate wad going to re-do all the underseal under the car so it last longer from rust,
the rear axle looks like its a got a bit of surface rust will have to get a wire brush on that lol.

yeah will look under the plastic liners to see if theres rust and paint damage as well,

You reckon i should just get a wet sponge to get all the rubbish/mud out or am i better not making it wet even more under the wheel arch??

dunno if you were thinking it, but don't underseal the rear axle!

If you just add underseal on top, you'll probably just be adding pointless weight in most places. Most people would try to blast or wire brush (on a grinder) off the existing underseal back to bare metal. Then use a zinc primer (cold galvanising), seam seal it with the caulking gun stuff, then get you shultz spray on top of that.

If you currently have some rust starting, seal on top of it is not a good idea.

It's a bit too far to go for preventative maintenance. If it was an early 90s car then fine

The cars a 2005 LCR but doesnt really have any rust apart from a bit on surface rust on the axle, I was going to do it for more of a preventing of corrosion ranther than 4 years down the line I get the good old rust spots lol and check under the arches behind the plastic liners.

Doesn't really need striping back and galvanising yet maybe another few years

What would you reccomend Mark One ??

It would take 20 or 30 years of typical use for corrosion to have any structural impact on something as thick as the rear beam. Rust is only really a problem on thinner panels tbh.

If your concerned or you want it too look better
- Brush off all the rust areas till shiny (drill or grinder brush will be easier)
- Either: Spray with zinc primer
- Or: Apply Kurust (better still vactan) - I find this is best applied with a cheap toothbrush
- Spray black over the top - I have less experience with paint selection but 'rust oleum' is far better than hammerite.

A good zinc primer will be the best option for longevity. Both options are likely to outlast your ownership of the car.

Bodyshultz can cause more problems than it saves. Not a fan myself. You can trap air and moisture against your metal. I wouldn't even entertain the idea!

That does look a lot nicer under thier, I live out in the sticks and have had my car up in the ramp the last few weeks and looks awful compared to this May have to do somthing similar
