I've been searching for this information, and I found out that Platinum Grey was indeed a limited run on the '03 LCRs, but i was told the other day that only 60(!) of these were made.... does anyone know if that is true??

I love the idea of having one of only 60 cars exactly like mine. You think I could put that in the advert if i ever come to sell it?? :D (and perhaps bang on an extra grand? lol)

I'm not sure to be honest but there are plenty of Platinum LCR's knocking about on other plates. Kinda makes it less exclusive. I agree though it would be nice to have a limited run edition.

At the time of buying mine the 225 was already out, but i can imagine that it must have stung a bit to pay out extra for a limited colour, only to have 100s of them produced later on...!

I was always going to get Platinum or Black but knowing that it is, or at least was, a rare colour is nice.

Yeah it was going to be a limited run on the last of the 210s, but demand was so high SEAT decided to put it on the list of standard colours. A few LCR owners felt a bit cheated, most didn't mind though!

Was it something that cost more then? I could understand feeling cheated if you had been sold it on the promise of a limited edition colour that others wouldn't have!

Well the original 210LCR colours were

Black, Red and Yellow all non-metallic and zero cost options IIRC (Ebony flat black)

The metallic platinum carried the usual metallic paint premiun of circa £350 (ish) cost if I recall

Platinum was going to be a limited run special edition. I'm sure there were only meant to be 60 in the UK. Other than the extra charge for metalic paint they didn't cost anymore. BUT you couldn't specify any options at all, not even recaros.

Then they released the 225 models and Seat added Platinum as a standard colour. But you could have options etc too. So I think it's understandable a few Platinum owners were a bit miffed by it.

I'm not surprised if that's the case! You don't mind missing out of options like that if you think you're getting something unique and special. But knowing you could have waited 6 months and got the best of both worlds must sting a bit!

Yer I couldn't care less that they brought out more in Platinum, it wasn't billed as a special edition really, they were simply built for SEAT UK and the dealers to advertise the SEAT Cupra Championship. Some cars were draped in vinyl to look like the race cars. Much like they did with the BTCC Leon Mk2's last year. Hence no available options, as they built them to order for SEAT.

The fact some of us got to hear about them, and managed to bag a few was our decision to make, you didn't really need any options. The lack of Recaro's never bothered me, the standard seats were more than upto the job. Sat-nav was never wanted either.

Non of us paid any more for the fact we had Platinum Leon R's. But for around 6 months we were a fairly exclusive club. In fact if you look at it objectively, 225 owners paid more for their cars than the 210 owners did.
