Hello,

I can finally order a new lease car, but i'm still not sure if i should go for Matt (magnetic tech) or Metallic (graphene grey). I can only imagine there are (or have been) other people that are in a similair situation.

Personally, i prefer the satin matt paint over metallic, if i'm only taking into account the looks. However, if i also take into account that's it's more of a hassle to keep the car clean (no carwash, you see stains more easily, scratches) then i'm not so sure. I haven't been able to find a long term user review on Matt formentors. Moreover, I don't see myself washing the car every 1 or 2 weeks by hand.

My question is, are there people with a Formentor in Petrol Blue or Magnetic Tech Matt (or previous experiences with other matt cars) and can share some of their experiences? Would you advise to get one in Matt or no?

It's a lease, so i will be returning it after ~ 4 years.

Cheers.

Thanks for the reply @Alex-c. Are you already driving your Formentor and do you have some pictures you can share? Because all the info i have seen so far, strongly discourage going through a car wash with a matt paint. Due to polish, scratches, soap with wax in it etc.

Hi Franky, Obviously this is all down to personal choice and matt paint does look great. However, I do have a friend who has a Mercedes with a matt paint finish and he hates it. It is very hard to keep clean and when you do wash it ( you will need matt specific products) you have to be meticulous with the drying or else you will have streaks and lines all over the car. He recently brushed past a hedge which has put some scratches on the nearside of the vehicle and the dealer has said that the only way to deal with this is to have all the affected panels repainted £££. Apparently, you cannot blend/patch/buff out matt paint, so its an all or nothing scenario. Also stone chips and micro marring (bird droppings) show up dramatically on matt paintwork. He has said that he will never have matt paint again........ I also thought about ordering my Formentor with matt paint but decided against it in light of my friends experience. His latest issue is with road salt which seems very hard to wash off the vehicle and even after a wash there are still white lines on the car where the salt has just dispersed over the paintwork. There are quite a lot of articles and information about matt paintwork online. I think it is OK if you are the kind of person who cleans their car every weekend and has extra time for the care required. Personally, I don't so that made the decision pretty easy too.:)

Marshalls Cupra Leicester had a matt Formentor in the showroom (one of several new cars for sale!), in blue I think. the first thing my eyes were drawn to was the door where people had grabbed the edge to close it and it was covered in finger marks - and the car wasn't there 9 days earlier when I bought the car.

So if you have sticky hands in the family, or people who won't change how they close a door.... I'd avoid as it would drive me nuts every time I walked up to it.

I've had my VZ3 Petrol Blue Formentor since November last year in the full knowledge that I'd possibly have issues with the paintwork - heart overruled head though!
Suffering recently with various mobility problems I've not washed the car myself but take it when needed to a local hand-wash facility and have been very pleased with the results.
My ultimate objective is to have the paintwork more permanently protected by a variant of the ceramic coating; there's a fair bit of stuff on YouTube about this but I'm still looking and waiting for a local company to emerge at which time I'll go along for a good chat. There is one product mentioned on a YT vid that specifically mentions an Autoglym spray and demonstrates it being used to remove finger smears on a show car. I reckon technology will eventually catch up and more specialised products will emerge.
