Thinking of purchasing a polisher for the car. never been a fan of these as was told can leave bad swirl marks on the car. But after seeing the ex use one on hers, they look like a handy device.

Dont get me wrong, i dont mind polishing by hand, but seeing how much better these things remove the polish, i think it would be wise to get one. plus would also save time, thus allowing me to add more coats of wax in the same amount of time :D

Shite, forgot to put my question in (the whole reason behind this thread :D)

I just wanna know what you guys would recommend. Just checked argos site, and they do a challenge one for £15. Any good. I mean to me they're all the same right? only difference is RPM???

For £15 I doubt it will be that professional.

Porter Cables seem to be well regarded, although somewhat more expensive than £15!!

PS.
You can edit your original posts. As I've noticed you seem to be replying to quite a few of your own posts ;)

Those things are utter rubbish. They have no torque whatsoever, so won't do any 'polishing'. The battery ones don't last long enough to do the car. The only thing they might be used for is applying a liquid finishing product like a sealant or wax that doesn't need working or breaking down. But its just as easy by hand.

Cheapest option for a machine polisher will be a silverline rotary (£35-40), but it needs a lot of practice to use properly, ideally tuition, to make make sure you don't do more harm than good. There are a couple of other machines out there, the PC is popular and probably the best known.

I had went down the cheap way and got a Halfrauds polisher for £30 and it was guff, so i decided to buy a PC from the states, arrived and looking forward to using it.£116 but it comes with several pads and some polish.

think i'll continue to do it by hand for now!

plus you get that "feel good" feeling after knowing the car looks good because of the work you put into it yourself and not a machine :D

cheers for the tips anyway fellas, may invest in one one day!

i feel better using a PC as the finish is 100 times better than what i could achieve by hand.

I wouldnt have removed any of the swirls or scratches by hand at all.

Im soo glad i bought one

mmmmmmmmm................. but then again, i've been told that if not used corrcetly it could cause more harm than good. why's that? i dont get it. I thought it was a case of, put polish on buffer, put buffer on car, switch on. move about. stop to reapply polish. repeat
