less than two months MOT?

I wouldn't buy it unless it either had 12 months ticket, or was incredibly cheap

bald tyres, non original paint (more of it would be faded:)), no mirror all suggests someone's owned it & can't afford the maintenance.

£3200. think how much money it'll be for the MOT if it needs new brakes, a service, tax, MOT, 2xtyres, cambelt - that's a fair chunk of money there to bring it up to an acceptable standard

3300-3400 max really. Tax and mot your looking at 350quid, waterpump and cambelt 400quid

only thing in his favour is that its an R and its rare, but thats it. I wouldnt go over 3.5k

Don't bother. if your budget for a car is £5000, then that's what it will cost to get it right.

in which case, just go buy a car for £5k.

A nice example is worth traveling for imo the one i bought was nearly 2 hours away.....

2 hours... I drove 8! All be it for a bike but the same principle applies.

I personally wouldn't buy a Cupra R, just a Cupra. But if I had to give a value on it would probably be around £6500 without the bad points, with the bad points £5000-5500. (out of the recession lol) A grand less nowadays.

Say to him the costs, service (£400) + tax (£210) + MOT (£50+) + mirror (£50). All adding up to at least £710 needing spent.

Editted because my price watching skills aren't that great!

no way is that r worth 6.5k, maybe pre recession but not now! And it wouldhave had to be a minter back then. 3.7k take it or leave it id say to him

Yeh looking at them now they have decreased quite alot. Been looking at the Cupra prices so much have totally missed that Cupra Rs are a hell of alot cheaper almost as cheap as Cupras!! Never used to be the case.

That's too little information to put a valuation on it.

But at best it's a 7 yr old car, and he wants 5.5k for what was 13k new.

At worst it's a 9yr old car....

But I don't think m(any) Mk3 Cupra's are worth more than 4.5k, except those where significant money has been spent on long term maintenance (engine rebuild etc)

mods aren't worth jack.

low mileage is only "worth it" if it's been maintained by age, not mileage. Don't be blinded by mileage. I sold our Cupra with 80k on it & in better nick than many with fewer miles.

The R needs to be very very cheap

it depends on how much you want it, as its been said its worth what you want to pay, if its a good example and there is nothing major wrong with it then i dont see the problem buying it, you know your budget and its well under it,

personaly tho id have to see the car to know if its worth it so i could look under it and visualy check stuff,
