Possible Start-up issue

Over the last couple of months I have been getting a noise when I start the car. It only happens when it's cold / damp (been left overnight). It is a whining noise which sounds almost like a belt slipping and lasts for about 5 seconds. There are no other obvious problems - drives fine, everything else working normally.

Any ideas?

Also, when I have looked under the bonnet, I notice that the radiator fans are working, on start up and still going after a half hour journey. This doesn't sound right.

Could alternator fan belt noisy, as its cold may be abit slippy, once the car warms up it stop.
May need tighting.

Don't think it is this - the noise only lasts 5-10 seconds after it starts. I think it may be something to do with the air conditioning / heating - something kicks in and then you get the noise.

One for the garage I think!

the noise relates to the fans starting. Are the fans on the radiator supposed to be on all the time????
