Power Steering Yellow Light

Hi,

I hope that I'm posting this in the right area but apologies if not, I'd posted it in another area but I don't think it was the right one!

I have a 2006 Mk2 Leon 1.9 Tdi. It's started experiencing a problem with the steering in that the yellow power steering light comes on and the steering goes heavy. This has been happening every day for a few weeks. After a bit of driving the light generally goes out and the steering returns to normal as if it needs to warm up?

However, I'm looking to sell the car and could do with getting it sorted. It still had the original battery in so I've just changed this but it doesn't seem to have solved the problem. I haven't taken it for a run since changing the battery though, just fired it up on the drive (would that matter?).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Andy

ideally you need to pull the fault code, as the problem could be coming from a dodgy steering pump, a worn fan belt or worn pulleys on the fanbelt system. have you checked fluid levels as hopefully a low fluid level is the cause of the problem.

Thanks for your replies. There's a chap along the street who has diagnostic software so hopefully he can get the codes.

I was under the impression that the steering was fully electromechanical on the Mk2 Leon so I shouldn't have to top up the fluid levels, is that not the case?

Thanks

Andy

Don't think the warring has fluid as it's electric

Try disconnecting and re-connecting the battery, I think it resets something as every time I've done it my
steering light comes on afterwards then goes out after a short drive

It's an electro-mechanical system, no fluid involved.
