Pre painting???

Just got the nod to get my car painted next week so this week and weekend i will be doin as much as i can in terms of gettin the panels sorted ready for when she goes in.

I need a new or 2nd hand front grille and a fog light cover if anybody knows of any for sale? colour will not matter obviously.=)

Im also going to rub the surface rust off the arches and its very minor, Any ideas on the best way to do this or would the paintshop do this?

as you can imagine im really excited for my baby have fresh paint so just want to get everything right.

get paintshop to do it all. it will never match.

howd you mean vince? i would only be rubbing the arches down at the most

it starts with the arches but then you start to rub away more and more until your half way up the rear quarter. this is the best i managed :

true! i had a quote last time which included rubbing down etc but i once had my nova gsi arches done ages agp by a different paintshop who said they would do the same.

Guess what happened 2 month after i had them done! yep the rust came back through! to be fair tho the arches on the kiwi arent even bad but i just want it to be mint as i really love the car.

is it a case of trusting the guy whos painting the car then?

pretty much. im gonna get them to grind off all the inside lip of the arch till its flush as it starts rusting from the inside.

yeah suppose that will be a fairly easy job like so cant see it being a problem!

i will be able to come to the meet up at xscape now if i have my car back in time!

really wanna come anyway but my car really does need painting! the bonnet and roof are almost white!

can any1 shed any light for me? any mates breaking? ive contacted 1 guy on ebay from sheffield breaking a kiwi but have yet to have a reply,

that kiwi in sheffield had morrettes and sold straight away and are probably painted black or blue by now all he has is the doors, couple of panels and interior i think. sold the bumpers complete.

Does the Amarillo green just fade particularly? I know some whites, blues and especially french reds are sods for fading to the point where paint taht should be an exact match really isn't.

Up here there used to be an ICI colourmatch place that would literally mix to match the current state of your car and sell untinned paint in litre jars. Don't know if that sort of thing is still available anywhere though. I'm going back over ten years here...

shes gunna be painted ion focus rs green very similar to kiwi but a bit more custom lol

well shes now booked in for the 26th and just ordered a new grill which wasnt too bad at £19 and free postage..

all i need now is a fog light surround but im getting a feeling this is a steeler jobbie??
