Hi easy question are pressed plates legal?

Depends where you get them from I believe,

Dubmeister used to do them although I'm not sure if they still do / costs etc

I wouldn't bother though personally I think they look gash

I have pressed plates on mine which are legal, and I think they look way better than boring plastic ones. They have to be retro reflective to be legal.

Europl8 do them as well. I have a set and they are perfectly legal plus they look better than the standard plates.

I've got road legal pressed plates on my LCR. Has the BSaU marking, plate makers name (Tnw Signs Ltd) and reflective backing.

Never had a problem in all my years of driving, always got them off the guy on eBay as mentioned above, had them on multiple cars too.

Very difficult to find definitive clarification on whether they are legal or not. According to the law the plates have to be made of "reflective material" but doesn't actually state what they have to be made of. There is debate as to whether painted or wrapped metal constitutes made of a reflective material. Basically as the other posters have said as long as you get "legal" ones with the correct markings and fonts etc I doubt you will ever have any bother but basically its all down to the copper who pulls you over, there's good cops and bad cops.

Normal plates aren't made of reflective material either. They're made of clear acrylic with reflective backing. Metal plates are made of metal with reflective fronting. It's all semantics.

Like others have said it depends what mood the copper pulling you is in. I've had show plates on my cars for 3 years now. The police don't seem to care and I just switch them over at mot time
