So my MY17 1.6tdi ecomotive is due its 40k mile service. Am I right in thinking that it needs oil (and filter), fuel filter, cabin and air filter?
Seat Derby have quoted me £139 which I can hardly believe since a trusted indi shop (midlandvw) quoted £195.

I have priced up parts from GSF and euro car parts and it seems to be around £60-£80 for the parts. I enjoy servicing my car but never had a new car with a warranty.

Do you think I should just go with Seat or do it myself? The car is totally standard.
Have seat got the price wrong? I’m sure my 20k service was that price with seat

£139 seems good to me! The 40,000 is just a second 20,000 mile service isn’t it? Not sure but I’d let them do it for that price.

This is the same dilemma I have every 6 months. If you are capable and enjoy servicing your car, then do it yourself. Most important for Diesel is as you've already listed, oil/filter and fuel filter. But yes, would do air and cabin filter as well if it were me. Effectively what you are paying for is obviously the labour, but also the inspection. So as long as your happy checking over suspension bushes whilst it's off the ground and brake pads, etc.

I think it comes down to time/effort vs money. If your happy to do it yourself and not worried about the service stamp, do it. But sometimes I look out the window at the rain and think ye, I'll give the garage 60 quid labour and stay inside watching Seal Team.

Did my service for a 1.0 TSI Ibiza just under a month ago...got charged the bog standard £189 at the dealership. If minor should just be oil change and fuel filter, and new plug. Major perhaps (I never got one of these as my cars are leased and go back after 2 years), includes air filter and other stuff...
