probably a silly question about dump valves (bov?)

Hi all,

Total n00b here.... no mechanical knowledge what-so-ever.... so apologies in advance for the possible stupidness of my questions!

Ive recently been looking into getting my car remapped, (ibiza fr) and putting a dump valve on. Im thinking im going to be doing the valve first as its cheaper. However i have a couple of what are probably silly questions...

From my research on this forum and various manufacturers websites i understand i need a recirc- atmospheric hybrid (cos i like the noise) otherwise the ecu kicks off. Is this correct?

How do you know what noise the valve will make? and how do you know how loud it will be? Ive been looking and i find no mention of sound levels, ie makes ?? db. I have found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBBS2hLexvo&feature=related on you tube, which i really like the sound of, so how do i find it??? I know its a bailey one but only from the title and the car in the video is a leon cupra r. Do they have different engines - Can i get one for my FR?

If i buy one, will it work out of the box, can i fit it and off i go, or are there settings that have to be changed? Id like to have a go at fitting it myself, as i have to learn somehow- if its plug and play. If i gotta change stuff though thats getting a bit complicated for me so would have to get a mechanically minded mate to help- or worse pay one!

Also - last question i promise! - The car is currently completely standard. If i get a dump valve now, then remap the car in say 6 months (waiting mainly for warranty to end) will i need a different valve after the remap due to the extra power or boost? Or do they come adjustable - or are they even self-adjusting? Or maybe the remap wont effect it at all?

Thanks for any answers you can give me, like i said im a total beginner at this car stuff, im trying to research it but there are some questions i just cant find an answer to!

Luke...

Hi Luke,
Is your FR a diesel? If so you can't have a dump valve! (I dont know the mechanics either but they dont have ... a throttle... something) anyway it wont work.

If you have a petrol here is my advice:
Re-circulation dump vavles are the only ones you can get, Atmospheric with go mental with the ECU and you'll probably send it into limp mode, If you really want the sound then I can help with that!

You want a Forge 007P re-circulation valve
http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/content.asp?inc=product&cat=190103&product=FMCL007P

and to make it noisy like an atmospheric dump valve you want to remove your airbox and get an open cone filter:
Personally I spent out and bought a jetex filter, but its pretty big and I dont think it would fit with your battery there too (Mines in the boot)

A number of people bought green cotton cone filters
http://www.green-filter.co.uk/index.php?manufacturers_id=59&cat_id=1089

But I'm not sure what ones they got as I can't see any 1.8T's listed there!

Do the following:

Open cone filter
Turbo downpipe to sports cat and then catback custom exhaust system *Much cheaper than buying miltek/blueflame etc*
Forge 007P
Stage 2 map (or stage 1)

Dont worry about the warrenty they wont know, and if something breaks as a direct result of a mod... say you lower the suspension and one of the shocks fails then you have to pay for it.

If you lower the suspension and the boot falls off its irrelevant.

Also, if you'd like (Once I find my video camera) I'll take the car up and down the road and record the noise it makes so you can hear the volume but I can assure you, its loud enough!
Edit,
Split R's are great but not worth the extra money to be honest

hey CJRamze, the car is petrol. I had found this
http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/content.asp?inc=product&cat=0006&product=FMDVSPLTR
from forge, it says its a recirc- atmospheric hybrid which apparently works without upsetting the ecu. (i dont know if its correct im only reading what the site says). i dont know what sound this will make tho.
Would i really need the Turbo downpipe to sports cat and then catback custom exhaust system if im only going to stage one as that sounds expensive!?!

Apologies, You wouldn't "Need" it
However it does benefit the car greatly as it allows the exhaust gasses to escape alot quicker increasing overall performance.

The turbodownpipe on the Ibiza is quite restricting so whilst a Stage 1 will work fine with it you'll find it will rev alot free'er with a big downpipe and sports cat.

Also if you have this custom fabricated (I recommend a place by me as he's flawless) they come with a lifetime guarentee!

Again.. I'd recommend a 007P their considerably cheaper and you'll get the same sound once you get a cone filter (Which I guarantee you will do)

thanks very much for your help, im looking into it now! :D
