Just had my CLIFFORD removed so want to revert back to using the SEAT key fob as ive been using a standard SEAT key (no fob) with the CLIFFORD remote. Up until today the standard SEAT key (with fob) worked fine (opened doors and started car). Just got back from having the alarm done and the tried out the key (with fob) and it unlocked doors ok but wouldnt start engine, so i set about redcoding it..........

  • Introduce the key you want to programme into the ignition and steering lock slot
  • Turn key till contact is made and hold it for five seconds maximum
  • Take key out of the lock; hold 'locking' button and press 'unlocking' button 3 times
  • LED flashes 5 times
  • Car will lock itself

Now when i have finished pressing buttons the LED does flash 5 times (as it should) but the doors do not lock and the key still does not work. And now the key wont even lock unlock the car via the fob :banghead:

Any ideas? :help:

Ok managed to get the fob to lock/unlock doors by doing this:

sit in car - doors closed

1 ignition on to red lights on dash
2 turn off immediately and pull key out
3 hold 1 of the buttons down (dont matter which)
4 PRESS the other 3 times ( with a SLIGHT pause) 1 . 2 . 3
5 watch led on key (should flash) and doors usually try lock/unlock
6 turn ignition key back on to red lights and wait 5 sec
7 key out again and test operation

But still wont start car??

do you get the 'key' symbol on the dash?

Yep, it flashes at me. The car starts them dies straight away. Its fine with my other 'fobless' key but want to use the key with fob really.

Anyone know if these will work (As long as i fit my blade to them and program them)?

Ford Galaxy Key

Skoda Key

VW Sharan Key

Going to head to a few breakers tomorrow and see what i can find. But don't really want to come home with a key that has no hope of working.

the key comes in 2 sections electrically speaking

the remote - operates the doors/alarm ONLY and can be recoded simply as they are whats is known as virgin plips that merely repsond to the car signal sent - hence the coding procedure above - when operating both buttons it merely starts the program mode for the remote blip to scan and recieve any signal sent to it

a bit like a self learning tv remote in a way

the problem you have is the immobiliser which is either a small glass tube or a black plastic chip that is passive (needs no human operation) and is pre programmed to the car but not quite as simply - if this doesnt work or is lost when you open/drop a key then the car will simply start then die 1 sec later - they used to carry letters on teh blade to depict the type - from memory it was W / W3 / and a W with a line through it - along those lines

this can easily be programmed to the car via the 1551 diag unit thorugh the immobiliser/instruments section easily done at a dealers and i believe via vagcom but as a vag com operation you will need the same info your dealer will need (ie- the ecu security code) and that can be 4 or 7 digits and not the best thing to mess with unless you are 100% sure of what to do

basically because of what info and procedures are required the central locking is a quick easy thing for a driver to do - mine didnt work last night so i simply reprogrammed it myself in tescos car park

the immobiliser however should be carried out at your local dealers who not only have teh correct equipment and procedures but also the facility to obtain the info required to carry it out

vag com link - look down to immobiliser section

to others looking to add keys / flip keys etc take note of the fact that there are 3 types of immobiliser system and the remote locking system runs on several types and frequencies (look on your own key) so although not impossible is a real mare to work out

I have exactly the same problem, I have tried to re-code the radio part of the key without success. The old key that came with the car never worked and so I splashed out on a new key. I haven't had the chip programmed yet but thought it would be possible to code the radio part of the key but when following the procedure in the hand book nothing happens....maybe I am going through the process too fast.

I have tried to locate the radio receiver unit but after prising off the cover on the rear view mirror I have found there is nothing there and according to haynes the control unit should be here....any suggestions?

depends on the car and year model though

early cars were infa red and had reciever but then went to radio signal that has the reciever built in to teh ecu and doesnt need pointing like a tv remote

*as above*

1 ignition on to red lights on dash
2 turn off immediately and pull key out
3 HOLD 1 of the buttons down (dont matter which)
4 PRESS the other 3 times ( with a SLIGHT pause) 1 . 2 . 3
5 watch led on key (should flash) and doors usually try lock/unlock
6 turn ignition key back on to red lights and wait 5 sec
7 key out again and test operation

worth a few tries with buttons swapped over - if the led on key flashes 5 times you know thats trying to code up - or even test batteries for at least 2.95v minimum - any lower they usually work just the led :) and lack signal strength

I'll give it another go. My car is a late 1997 Ibiza 2.0 16v GTI model.

Tried the coding sequence again last night and basically I get the Key LED to flash 5 long flashes but then nothing happens (i.e the car doesn't react at all)...Any ideas of what to do next apart from being mugged by a dealer?

Central locking on my car works from both sides and turns the alarm on with no problems.....How does the remote locking act on the locking system itself...there must be a mechanical device that operates this?
