Hi,

I noticed when i am sat with my car in neutral and i tap the accelerator so it revs to about 2500 - 3000 the engine drops back to idle quickly. But if i tap it a little harder, so it goes to about 3500 - 4000, its takes ALOT longer for it to drop back down. Now, I know this probably isn't explained too well and someone is sat there thinking "well you'd expect it to take longer to return to idle, because you reved it harder"....but this isn't the case, it is not proportionate. Now I will try and get a video of this tomorrow to illustrate the point better, but thats unless someone can tell me if this is actually a fault or not.

I have the 1.8 20v turbo.....this is my first car with a turbo, so wasnt sure if it was something to do with that.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

Thanks

Ash

Sorry its taken so long but i finally managed to get the video tonight
Search the following on you tube " Seat Ibiza 1.8 20v Turbo FR (2007) - Long time to return to idle PROBLEM " and pick the top result (Ash B)

The problem becomes apparent at around 20 seconds into the video.

Any suggestions?

I also noticed that for instance, when driving in 5th at about 70mph, if I lift off to coast, the car seems to almost power itself a little, it takes quite a bit of time for the speed to start dropping (more than I have noticed in any other car). This to me would coincide with the above problem of the throttle seeming like its being left open a bit after I lift my foot off.

Can anyone suggest anything on these issues?

Cheers

Ash

Not the accelerator pedal sticking is it? I put some wd40 on it the other day and it's sorted it now

Still not had time to have a proper look :( . I suspect its more than just a sticky pedal, as once the revs are holding on their own (in neutral), as soon as i put the clutch in it seems to 'unstick' whatever is keeping the revs held up there and they drop back to idle as normal....so still at a loss at the moment

So I checked last night and it is not a cable throttle, but fly by wire. Gave the carb a clean last night (although it didn't need it, was spotless inside there, no gunk etc.
I stopped short of squirting wd40 on my pedal as I didn't want to have the car smelling of it, but I dont believe this to be the issue.
I think it could be a faulty TPS or a problem with the electronic part of the throttle body, based off what I've seen so far.
.....either way, its a pain in the backside :(
