Problem with remote central locking

Just got my Leon and really happy with it so far, but one thing has been really bugging me.

The remote central locking only works when im right up next to the car. I thought the batteries might be going flat so i replaced them with brand new, however it still has no effect until Im standing right next to the car.

Every other car Ive been in with remote locking will work from at least 20 metres.

Anyone have any ideas what might be wrong.

I had this with mine but not that extreme!! all i did was change the battery and give the internals of the key a good clean with a cotton bud and cleaning fluid. i assume you have a flip key?? and it now works from a great distance.

No its not a flip key, just the standard key it came with. All the contacts looked clean enough when I replaced the batteries.

30 ft is the max i get out of mine and then sometimes i hold it to my head (try it)
