Problematic FR

Hi all,

I have had no end in problems with my current car which is a SEAT Ibiza FR 1.4 TSI DSG on a 2010 plate.

I purchased this car from a dealer in Harrogate, North Yorkshire in December 2011 after coming across the car in their showroom as ex- managment stock.

I liked the car and took the car for a test drive which performed well.

I picked up the car in the middle of december from the dealership and drive the car away. I personally didnt have the best experience of how the hand over went with the dealership.

It doesnt seem to have gone the way some of the theads have gone on this forum when getting the cars signed over to to the person.

Anyways before i purchased the car i went round the car with fine details and noticed some stone chips on the bonnet and front wings. I asked the sales guy at the time to fix it before sale which he assured me he would.

The day of picking the car up came and it all looked very good standing in the carpark. I checked the car over and found the problems had not been fixed.

I queried this with the sales guy and he was unaware that it had not been fixed and assured me that it would.

I left the dealers and would return a few days later due to the fact the bodyshop buy wasnt working.

I though it would get fixed and left it at that and drove the car away.

After only 2 hours of driving the car the engine management light came on, which i wasnt really happy about and i personally felt the car was running lumpy.

I took it back to the dealers who said they didnt have any SEAT Trained technicians in but could get the regular mechanic to put it onto the diagnostic machine to see what codes would come up.

It came up with a manifold problem and the mechanic couldnt find any problems so reset the light and just assured me it might of just been a one off which i though was fair enough.

By this time i also went back to the dealers regarding the stone chips and also found a chip in the windscreen.

The car was taken around the back of the dealship to a bodyshop area and the guy in the bodyshop looked at the car and advised that the paint for my car doesnt match the colour they had in stock. (Track Grey)

The sales man who sold me the car then said they could order me in a touch up stick which will incur a cost of £39 to myself and also that the windscreen could not be fixed as the chip was not deep enough.

After i told them i wasnt paying for the touch up stick due to the fact they said they would fix the car before sale. The sales guy went to the manager and came back with a reduced price of £13 and asked if i would like to order one.

I said i would think about it and to phone me later on in the day but dont see why i would need to pay for paint when the dealership should of corrected the paint before purchase.

The sales guy then phoned me later on in the day regarding the paint and i explained that i was not happy regarding the problems so far with the vehicle regarding paint, windscreen and mechnical issue. I asked about rejecting the car and the sales guy advised me to ring the finance company to reject the car.

So i phoned the finance company and explained my problems to them which they advised me i would cancel the finance under the 14 days cooling off period and that i would need to send the car back to the dealership and make sure they repay the full amount or i would be charged for the finance agreement.

I then cancelled my finance then phoned the dealership back and advised them what i had been told by the sales guy but this time when phoning the dealership i got intouch with the manager who after explaining my case told me i was wrong and "it just doesnt work like that"
After hitting a brick wall i decided to ring consumer direct who confirmed that what i was told by the finance company was correct.

After a load of problems i was advised to take a repair and i asked my step dad to deal with the mangager as he has more dealings with car dealers. He then got them to repair the paint problems and also the windscreen aswell. I was also advised that the finance agreement would be fixed aswell.

a few days later the engine management light then came on again so i agreed to take the car back to them when having the stone chips and windscreen fixed on the car.

The SEAT mechanic was there this time due to it being after christmas. I left the car for around 2 weeks with them and then when they diagnosed the fault with the engine management light found that the turbo and crankshaft were rubbing on the casing and were both replaced.

The bodywork were also fixed including a full respray of the bonnet and wings and also the stone chip in the windscreen was repaired.

The day i dropped the car off i went to the head office where i purchased the car from to see the manager and i asked him regarding the finance agreement because i had no current finance agreement on the car.

He phoned someone up from the finance company who advised him that the finance had not been cancelled and to continue to let the monthly repayments come out of my account like normal.

I had also found that the car had not been serviced before i collected the car which i was told it was by the sales guy, the car was 2000 miles overdue or 5 months overdue. So the car was booked in for the service and a few other minor bulbs fixed.

So i left the dealership in the asumtion it would all be fixed.

I got the car back and all the problems were fixed and the only problem i had was i left the car with half a tank of fuel and they drained all the fuel and never put any in the car so was basically running on empty until i got to a petrol station.

The car went on running fine until about a month later when i was coming home on a sunday night and was just turning off a duel carriageway onto the slip road when i noticed the engine management light come on again and also my tyre pressure warning light come on.

I slowed down and heard a weird noise and though that my tyre had gone or damaged so i pulled over onto the slip road and as soon as i stopped loads of white smoke started pouring out of the engine and oil was driping on the ground.

It looked like it was on fire and the smell was awfull and the smell got into all the interor of the car.

I was told by a friend who was following me that he saw what looked like a flame come from under the engine and some metal hitting his car. The car was undrivable so had to get recovery out to get home. May i point out aswell the recovery driver was told what the problem was and still drove the car onto the back of his recovery truck.

The car was recovered to the dealership to which it was diagnosed that the pistons had damaged 3 cylinders when they snapped, they then were sucked through into the intercooler and damaged the intercooler.

So i was informed that the car would require a new engine. It was replaced and until i had picked the car up i was not aware that the intercooler was replaced aswell. I got hardly no updates regarding the fixture of the cars and they messed me around with the courtesy cars aswell.

I was also informed by my step dad who was talking to the car company that my car was up for repossestion due to not paying the finance monthly repayments.

which i was advised by the manager that the finance agreement was still active and running.

i went back to the dealership and spoke to the manager who i signed a new finance agreement with after he had been messing me around the previous two days and i also asked him why he had given me the wrong information and left to so late to the point the car was nearly repossed until i was informed i needed to sign a new finance agreement and he just said that "this was the information i was told at the time"

After having the poor excuse i left the dealership and hoping to never have any problems again regarding the finance.

Moving onto about a month later i was driving down a road when the engine management light came on again. The car was running lumpy again so mentioned that to them.

I booked it back into the dealers who were suprised at the point that the car had developed a fault again.

I send the car back into them and they read the code and were unsure of the problem.

They said they used a flowchart or some sort of chart to come to the diagnosis that it may be the fuel pump and to keep driving the car until it comes on again then they would look into this further. They also said they couldnt find a problem with the lumpy running.

So i took the car back and 3 weeks later i was coming off a rounabout and the light was flashing again!

So i took it back to the dealership but this time the car was running lumpy still and i dropped it off on a thursday and i dont believe anything actually happened to the car until the monday.

The mechanic took the car out and found it might of been a knocking sensor so replaced the knocking sensor and then took the car out again and the engine management light came on again and the car was put onto the diagnostic machine and found to be miss firing in 3 cylinders.

They sent a report off to SEAT to which they were advised to replace the Injectors or the Injector leads?

They have kept the car over the current weekend and also may have found another fault with regards to the steering but was not given much details regarding this.

I also purchased Smart dent protection from the dealership and was not given the paperwork when i picked the car up so i also contacted the manager 2 times over the phone and 3 times i went into the dealership where i was advised that the admin staff would send the paperwork out.

I never recieved anything and on the 5th time i went in a complained the manager who just printed off a sheet of paper regarding the details of the smart dent and signed it and gave it to me.

I cannot believe that it took 5 times to get one sheet of paper and over 5 months aswell!

The car is currently at the dealership still getting repaired and again hardly any contact from them regarding the progress of the car.

I have been onto the finance company who said they would send a complaints form out to me but still never recieved anything so i phoned again and have got the paperwork finally after reporting the problem over 2 weeks ago...

I have lost faith in the car dealership, staff and the fixtures they have done to the car. I personally think its beyond a joke now with regards to all problems stated.

I want to reject the car but im getting all different advise regarding the rejection of the car.

Could anyone please advise me further?

Thanks
Dan

P.s. If you havent fallen asleep from my story and possibly bad grammar i respect you :p

I would write a full complaint to the dealer there selfs keeping a copy for ur self the. If u get no reply from. Them send a second later saying this will be the last letter sent to them selfs and state the next one will be from a solicter. I would also contact the finance copy and say u want to reject the car and state the reason why. On the gronda of buying a car and not being able to use it due to it constantly broke down should be enough because u have brought something not fit for the purpose which was brought for. And see what is said

Jesus man, some serious problems there :S

I picked up a 60 plate track grey FR in October and Just taken it back for warranty work. Engine light randomly flashing on and gearbox holding gear and not revving and a few other things.

They only had it a day and updated the gearbox and engine with new software and I got it back.

Although the creaky set which was supposed to be fixed came back with a vengeance basically straight away ;/

If I where you I would just drive the car straight through the window and into their showroom! :p

Salesman isnt really to do with it though, so I wouldnt worry hes going to "tell" on you as such. In fact, Id tell the dealer your posting how bad they are all over the internet. they might sort you out to keep you quiet then. Its the monkeys (by the sounds of them at least) in the service department that need sorting out. how can there be soo many mistakes that are not fixed first time and then have new ones appear as well.

Just to update this thread.

The car broke down again after coming back from a show.

Lost all power when on the motorway near Mansfield on way back to Leeds and had to swerve across 3 lanes of traffic to get it onto the hard shoulder where it decided it was going to run really bad.

Got the AA out to try solve the problem and it came back as working fine when the AA man turned the car over.

Diagnosed the problem as being misfired again and then was towed to the dealership for repair.

A few problems occurred with the dealers regarding the car but eventually traded it in for a Corsa VXR

I believe the car was sold at an auction but I have never had any more details on the vehicle.

The dealership has now gone into administration I believe.
