Proper TDI Dump Valve Set-up

Hello Guys,

Just been doing some research and thinking.
I know a lot of people don't like tdi dump valves, but this may be beneficial !

Right, If you was to disconnect the waste-gate on the turbo, go a dump valve on your boost piping attached to the throttle cable to release boost, then fit a manual boost controller which will release boost at a set amount, surely this will be beneficial and sound amazing.
You in theory should be able to choose how much boost you want (obviously don't be stupid and set this to the correct fuel ratio)

Surely you will get a sound of the boost whistling like crazy out the boost controller (as it releases excess boost) and then the dump valve dumping the boost.

Before anyone comments no really sure on how a tdi works, the waste-gate in the turbo as standard is basically a boost controller and a dump valve in one, it releases excess boost to stop over-boost, and then releases all boost like a dump valve through the exhaust exit.

Hows this sound then?

Wastegates dont release boost, they let the exhuast gases by-pass the exhaust turbine. You are getting the two things mixed up.

You could in theory block of the internal wastegate and somehow fit an external one and you'd get all your racket out of a screamer pipe

Boost does not need to be released as there is no throttle plate in a diesel.

when you straight through a diesel and let off the boost, there is a "wooooooo" noise....similar to a dump valve, what causes this noise then?

Biggest flaw in your plan is that you dont actually have a wastegate on the variable geometry turbo's.

There is absolutely no benefit whatsoever in fitting a dump valve.

Variable vane turbos make that noise. There is no release of boost, a diesel doesn't have a butterfly valve etc to stop the boost going in when you let off the pedal, as already said

I had a scooby STI running over 330bhp for 6 years and still didn't waste my time/money fitting something purely for noise value

My old scooby sounded great with a dump valve. Not because of the valve noise itself but because an atmospheric dump valve makes the car overfuel momentarily and with race headers and a straight through pipe I got big backfires and flames when I was really on it. Great fun!! Not sure that would work on a diesel though!!

My scooby used enough fuel without setting fire to it in the exhaust system lol. Used to pop quiet a lot as it was without purposefully over fuel it

They have no beneficial value at all and purely a money making racket for people wanting that noise...just never figured out what's appealing over a vrooomtshhhhh ??

Since posting this I have came to realize how a dump valve works as I was misled information from people that sell tdi dump valves.
I am not a ricer.

Is funny on how they have graphs taken from a petrol dump valve setup to prove to you it works on a tdi
