Afternoon All.

Next month i'll be looking at trading my current car, a BMW 116D in for a Seat Leon FR 150BHP or the 184 BHP.

Anything to look out for, common problems or anything? Its the 2013/14 reg/model that im looking at.

Thank you.

Hi Adam,

I currently have the FR 184 63 Plate. Great car. Bags of power and torque and really enjoyable to drive.

Common faults/issues are rattles within the cabin. Mainly the door cards and some around the dash area.

Wind noise from the drivers door.

Cracked rear lights but these get replaced with warranty.

These are a few that I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure someone else will add some input

Hopefully whatever Leon you buy will already of had these faults rectified under warranty.

Thanks Ckpearce91.

Appreciate the advice. Are things like rattles around the dash / door cards covered by the SEAT Warranty or is it a case of turning the volume up ;) haha

Any other replies, greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Adam

They are covered by warranty but they're not very good at fixing them. You end up just getting used to it or fixing it yourself as some people have done on here and I too will be doing at some point.

Don't know why you'd buy a 150 if you could buy a 184

Mines nearly new so can't comment on age related issues.

Advice would be buy one and throw a DTUK box straight on it :D 60mpg and 230bhp wooooo

Theres not a lot of difference in price tbh so if i can get a 184 i will :) It defo needs to have the 'tech pack' add on though, as need sat nav and love the LED lights!

Yeah i usually end up getting my car remapped but with it being in warranty (probably) those DTUK box's do seem a good idea :)

Thanks MATTCR

Nothing wrong with the 150hp version at all. I had the 150 now have the 1i4. Bigger surge in power though doesn't really feel that much quicker. I'd get a higher spec 150 if the cost is an issue. Both of mine have had rattles and one had a new heater matrix (week in the garage) though still great value great fun - enjoy

Bear in mind the 184 has bigger front brakes and a multi link rear suspension, these make it handle better and stop quicker (repeatedly)

My son just picked up a new 184 SC and it feels properly solid on the road and corners as if on rails. It runs on the same Potenza's as mine and mine is a 184 ST and yet even running in the SC seems so much faster and so much better around corners. My tyres are at 3.5mm front and under 2mm rear and my car weighs maybe 180Kg more than the SC but his feels properly quick and very sorted.

Big difference here; the rear suspension is far superior on the 184. The 150 has a rear beam while the 184 is fully independent. Good to hear the front brakes are larger too, does anybody know the size difference? 288mm -> 312mm?

MY15 onwards are a lot better put together in my experience, most of the creaks and rattles have been eradicated, as have a few other issues. also some better quality materials have been used on the interior which makes a difference

Front discs on 184 FR are 312mm
My 2011 Leon FR170 had these brakes and even with standard pads they are VERY good.
My previous Octavia Scout and my current FR184 DSG have these brakes so I know how good they are.
As I stated in my earlier post #9 the 150 has smaller brakes and inferior rear suspension. Go for a 184 if you have a choice.

An update :) viewing a Leon 184 2014 in white today, 35k mileage. I'm happy with the part exchange we've previously agreed so if its all good then i'll be getting it next week i would have thought. One thing already arranged is for the 17" alloys to be sprayed gloss black, IMO looks a lot better.

(saw it online at a Evans Halshaw branch in Peterbrough, then got it transported upto me, arrived this morning)

Be careful with Evans halshaw they are bandits mate, cars prepped badly, I'd look at a seat dealer under the used/approved banner, EH only give 3 month warranty, there extended warranties are crap

35k seems like a lot and I agree with Marty I've had no end of issues with Evans Halshaw dealers. Took my car in to have a turbo sensor replaced and they told me the brakes were on there way out, took it to another garage and they said "why are we checking these brakes" I'd avoid Evans halshaw like the plague. Private sale will always get you more than part ex as well, any trade in value is based on the dealer selling at auction so the undercut will be bigger than that of a private deal

Autotrader and other sites like that usually help you find where the lowest mileage to best priced cars are around the country, no harm in test driving the one in Peterborough but I'm sure shopping around(avoiding EH) could find similar if not better offers
