So... About 3months ago I ordered my first new car after being fed up on my ex cars that broke down constantly because of the abuse that hot hatches had got from previous owners. I ended up ordering a new Ibiza Cupra because it was one I could afford with a decent kit, its fast enough (hopefully) and the engineer in me likes the idea of twincharged little engine and dual clutch transmission. Hopefully I get on well with the DSG as I hate traditional automatics. In the past year my commute changed to more and more to rush hour traffic and I got fed up with manual so DSG will hopefully be a nice change and compromise between manual and automatic. Now I just have to see where this goes as I get to know the car better.

The car itself:
Ordered with Pirineos grey paint, Seat portable system, rear parking sensors and a few bits and pieces like textile mats. Oh and winter pack is standard here in Finland but I had to get new studded winter tyres with Seat 15" alloys.


Whats next:
Well as I get the car from the dealer tomorrow so I'll have to get to know the car and drive it. After that I start to install a little sub to the rear. I already have a Hertz DBA200.3 sub that I'm going to fit in. No need for monster bass but just a bit more low frequencies and kick. Also thinking of doing a little bit of interior mods like wrapping and logo with my nick or just a Cupra logo somewhere in the passenger side of the dash etc.

So, feelings after first 100km in the Cupra...

The feeling is really nice and I like the sounds so far. Of course I have not given it the beans but so far its really hard to keep my foot of the throttle just to hear the sounds. Really like the chargers whistle/whine. The sound system is decent but not great, still better than I expected so no need to upgrade the speakers right away. Good that I have my extra bass ready. The DSG is already a thing I really like even though there is one gear too many as I constantly end up a gear short because of the shorter gearing and the extra gear. Portable system was horrible horrible thing before I updated it. I don't understand how they could sell it like that. Thankfully the BT works much better now. I really like the extra gauges and that its all there in the same gadget. Steering is good but not as engaging as my ST170 steering was. One thing I noticed that the stock tyres dont have the same griplevels as Continental SportContact 5s as I could barely do a 50km/h in a sharp bend that I was able to take at 60km/h in my Octavia vRS. All the kit is nice and only small bad thing is the seat fabric that is quite hot to sit in but then again its 30 celsius outside now so cant complain. Even the dealer had done all the things I asked. Only thing that was not ok was the rear bumper that had a really small dent in the paint but thats going to be fixed on tuesday.

Bridgestone RE050a is the stock tyre. And the sub is Hertz DBA200.3. 1x8" active driver and 2x8" passive radiators and hooks in to the stock high level signal and all the cables have a quick release so you can always drop it if you need the space.

Today I have a pleasure of driving a Mii. My god what a difference . My Cupra went to get a little paint defect repaired. Its been a long time driving such a slow car, or so small. And hopefully this is the last time in a long time that my car will be at the dealer.

A little update, and hopefully more later today as/if I get the sub installed.

Yesterday I tried to install my subwoofer to the car with not so good results. There were a few problems removing the original radio from the car. As mine is with the new white text and backlit version that is not so easily removed as the older red version. This needs the correct removal tools to get it out. Plastic ones made from old creditcard didnt work as they could not withstand the yanking out part and ripped. Today I go to a local car stereo seller who has the correct keys (hopefully) and get the radio out and get the signal cables to the back of the car. Thankfully the powercables are really easy as the battery is in the back. Didnt even try to do anything else before I get the radio out as I dont want to end up with too much or too little of signal cable behind the radio and didnt feel like installing the sub power cables if I cant install the sub itself. Only kink was that my soldering iron is broken so had to solder the powercable connections with small butane torch . Suprisingly I didnt even burn myself or the car.

Other than that I have been a happy camper... First 1000km done and tried my first 0-100km/h timing on a motorway ramp. Three persons and groceries in the back in a slight uphill part and 6.99sec is not a bad time as the engine is still tight and the weight is a big thing in such a small engined and "low power/torque" car. And there might have been a heat soak issue with the engine as the outside air was 30degree celsius. And Im still suprised how fast the car is of the line because of DSG. I mean I love that I dont feel the changes but Im still throught 4gears and 100m in front of other cars at less than half the throttle travel. And I also checked the engine oil and it has eaten a small ammount but barely noticable when looking at the dipstick (assuming it was maxed spot on when I got it). Much better oil consumption than my old 2.0TFSI.

And about the exhaust. I dont feel the need to buy a new one, at least for now. Took of the back shelf and on full throttle you can really hear the exhaust. Not the kind of sound I was thinking of but still. Quite a weird swoosh type of sound not the throathy roar like a quite a few cars that I have owned have had. Oh and I love the supercharger whine and the turbo sounds. Im really annoyed that they tried to silence the supercharger, so nice sound when you push the accelerator and it just whines, changes to turbo and the car goes .

Oh and SPS has been working nicely. Really like all the extra dials and nice little things like what was my max g-force when doing the 0-100km/h test (0.5G by the way). BT works nicely, nav is suprisingly good and the maps are good to read unlike some navs I have had, it warns me about speed cameras and speed camera "hot areas", the extra gauges work nicely and for example the boost gauge reacts fast and does not lag behind and the BT handsfree audio is excelent. On the minus side the voice commands work only in some places, the BT streaming stutters when you have two phones connected to the SPS and if you start the nav without starting the car or turning on the ignition the BT wont work properly, car wont show max g-force after a corner (shows just the current g´s).

Finally got the sub installed. What a pain in the ass. Though it would be my easiest installation but far from it. Got the correct keys to get the radio out, connected the wires, got the speaker wires installed to the car. Biggest problem was one of the easiest things to do, installing the power cables to the battery. My battery's positive side was faulty from the factory and the bolt just spun out and in the end just broke in half. Thankfully I had a spare bolts at hand and got the thing fixed. In the end got it installed and like the sound. Even though it is almost too much as I have to keep gains at minimum to make sure that the sub won't out power the front speakers.

Just a miniscule update. Oil consumption seems to be a big problem for many Vag engines, 1.4 twincharged especially. At least for now mine seems to be coping well. I have driven 1400km and car has used 0.5l of oil. Not bad considering that this is a new engine etc. My old 2.0TFSI used much more. If Cupra won't use more than 0.34l per 1000km I'm really happy.

Just got back from the postal office and got my sill covers. Ordered a 4piece set for Ibiza made from carbon vinyl with chrome lettering and they even made me a custom set with Cupra text instead of Ibiza. Will be installing hopefully tonight with my other half as the extra hands.

Sill covers installed and a few curse words after I'm a bit annoyed but in tje end quite happy about the results. Drivers side had a little bubble that I could not clear properly and it left a mark. But the covers are good, look good and cover guite a lot.

Thanks, it's funny how much those little things that Cupra has make such a big difference, the grilles, bumpers, seats, SPS extra gauges, the exhaust (and the xenons make other Ibizas without them look like 10 years older) are things that I would not want to own one without.

Winter is coming... So I decided that the car needed a good protection against the elements and the salt. Normally I have used different hard waxes that I have had a professional to apply to the car a few times a year but this time I thought I should add something extra. I don't know what's the proper name for it but basically a wax or layer of chemical that acts like a wax and as long as you don't use hard chemicals it staying on the car for at least a year. Got a professional to do it for a half price so I took it. Interesting to see how it fares in the winter with salted roads etc. And as I got it so cheap I dont even care if it's not better than my old method of hard wax.

Sad sad day, winter has come . Buy buy grip and welcome the sound of studded tires. And a bit of info for those who think does 15" wheels fit over stock Cupra brakes. They do fit, just. Not a great look with those wheels but not as bad as I was thinking.

Sorry for the long response time. Havent been using Tapatalk anymore so have not noticed that someone responded. But yes, I used the original headunit. Just took a high level signal from the rear speakers (my personal choice, others might use front speakers) to the sub and thats it. Works like it should.

And the update. Im stuck with a VW Up for a day as my Cupra is at the dealer. My Soundaktor broke or something as there was a bad resonance at 4000rpm that sounded like a broken speaker. They checked the car and said its the interior light that resonates and ordered a new one. Im interested to see is that really the reason. The sound is so bad that I dont even want to rev the car out (not that we had the grip to use all the power at this moment but still) and thats one of the reasons I switched from Octavia vRS to Cupra. To get an engine that likes to chase the redline rather than using just the midrange punch. Tomorrow I´ll see has the light change worked.

Oh, and 10000km driven and the engine has used 0.5litres of oil. At least that was the deal before taking it to the dealer. Hopefully that wont change as I´m rather happy that my engine is without the oil burning issues. Cant actually even believe my luck as I normally have all the problems but not his time, I have checked the oil level many times and no change after that first 0.5litres of oil.

Yep, quite a few surprised Audi and BMW dricvers have been left behind . But sadly the studded tires I have are only 185mm wide so 100km/h full throttle dry tarmac and the car wants to spin the wheels.

And the spoiler would be really nice but all my money goes now to my summer holiday trip.

And the Soundaktor was fixed. The resonance came from the interior light and rearview mirror that were a bit loose/broken and they ordered and changed a new light and fixed the mirror. There is still a small resonance from the left side of the dash at cold days but I have not figured what it might be.

Sad and happy day at the same time. My Cupra will be gone in a week or two. One year and 21000km was enough for me to realize how much I need the driver involvement. Esp that cant be disabled, too "normal"/slow steering and cabin rattles on top of the fear of 1.4 twincharger and DSG7 breaking (mine are/were perfect and had no issues) after warranty made me order another car. And on top of those the resale value will plummet when the new Cupra comes.

So I bought a new Ford Fiesta ST. Brand new, Frozen white with grey Recaros, Rado grey wheels, red brake calipers, keyless system, tinted windows, illuminated ST door sills, engine warmer+1400W interior heater, winter tires, cruise control, auto wipers and lights, heated windshield, plus Mountune 215hp/320nm pack (ecu reprogram, intake and flash tool that has a lot of extras like fault codes, gauges, quarter-mile times etc) and 5year warranty. And hassled a few little bits of extras like free oil change, extra interior mats etc. I drove one with the same options as the one I bought including the Mountune pack for a day and was sold. Boy was it a riot to drive. And the sport esc is nice to have and it let's you play quite a lot without intervening. I will surely miss my DSG in rush hour traffic and my xenons in the winter but then I gained so much in driving dynamics and in fun factor that I just had to order it. Oh and the seats and driving position, Cupra seat is fine for a cruise but when driving fast I have to hold on from the steering wheel and in the Fiesta Recaros are just perfect for me and I can concentrate on driving and enjoying. And with the Mountune pack it really is a fast car and even thought Cupra might be faster in full on driving the Fiesta feels and sounds faster and certainly is more fun.

Sad part is that I even tried to ask around for a good deal on the upcoming Ibiza Cupra with 1.8TSI but Seat dealers were really rude and their offers laughable. They offered me 16000-18000e resale value for my Cupra when almost all the Ford dealers offered me 18500-20000e. When I told about Ford dealers offered resale value they said good luck and go and sell your car there so I did. I got the Fiesta fully loaded up with same money that I would have got basic Cupra without winter tires, engine warmers etc must have options here in Finland and there is 6000e difference in price of the cars that I mentioned. I did not think there would be that kind of bad car salesmen in this economy but I was sadly proven wrong.
