Question about HEX-USB+CAN interface

I've currently got ye olde basic 9-pin RS232 cable with a basic interface and vag-com 311.

Aside from working on newer cars and using USB, what would be the advantages of upgrading to a HEX-USB+CAN interface ?

Can it log data more quickly ?

Do you know if the UK distributors offer this price or is it only if I buy from the US ?
