Quick question - trolley jack

i dont like the current jack ive got so ive been looking for a better replacement, ive seen this: link which seems to be good for the job. it says a max lift of 376mm is that high enough to get an LCR wheel off? i think it is but wanna be sure also think it would it go under without using the sissor jack first with it being low at 79mm?

I have that jack. It is perfect for the job, mine lives in the boot I can't get it under the car without driving onto blocks first, but you have seen how low mine is!

yours is ALOT lower than mine, i might be alright getting it straight under the car then well for now anyways long as it lifts high enough thats all that matters, ill get one of these then. thanks danny

Get a set of TT jacking points from Awesome GTi for £15 while your at it mate, saves destroying the sills

yeah i seen a post recently about them, have to invest in some. ive been told to jack it from the subframe not the sill to save bending it

Yea, subframe mounting bolts or TT jacking points.. tyre shops will still try and jack off the sill and bend it for you

Trolley jack and axle stands

Folks,

I need to get the items in the thread title, it's for mk1 LCR. Standard ride height but that is a tad lower than most cars so they'll (specifically the trolley jack) will need to get under the skirts, I've heard some of them won't, even on a standard height car. Some clearance would be nice in case I decide to lower later.

As for the axle stands, some folks suggest ratchet type, some say the pin type are fine. Open to suggestions for both...

Machinemart do an aluminium one for lowered cars, that might suit?

I don't trust the ratchet ones, it's the pin ones all the way for me.

I'm going to get this one EBay - Low Profile Aluminium Jack. After using my mates (different branding but identical) jack it's so much easier than my current way. Scissor jack to start then halfords trolley jack to raise.

I would suggest buying 2 pairs of caravan levelling ramps (£30) and using your existing trolley jack if you have one. Alternately spend less money on a new jack that isn't low level to go with the ramps which will give you even more clearance.

I used to do that with my Glanza but substitute ramps with blocks of wood Then the jack/axle stands.

Reverse up them, jack up on the rear beam then axle stands. At the front you drive forward up them and jack on the subrame, then axle stands. If you want to go high at the rear though you'll definitely need a second pair so that the front doesn't hit the floor.

Exactly what I do. Saves forking out for an expensive new trolley jack

They don't sell the Arcan jack in Costco anymore - that's the brand that my mate has and it's good! The one I linked to looks almost exactly the same though.

You could always stick them behind the front wheels and reverse up, it all depends on the gradient of them.
