Shouldn't these cars have silver dials? Seen one for sale, and it hasn't got them. Was pretty interested in it, just worried about taking the plunge.

is that the be all & end all?

I'd look further than the colour of the dials (some will be black or white IIRC)

No, was just concerned it wasn't a 'proper' GTi. Anyway of putting in a plate number and seeing what comes up?

Check in places that are hard to see for colour changes.

Also - what does it say on the V5? RAC isn't always right....

8v or 16v?

yeah some of the older gti's had black dials, the speedo numbers right at the end bunch up aswell around 140mph iirc. Sure I've seen some pics of one not too long ago.

May have had a new dash and a respray, in the case of it having a new dash from an older car the recorded mileage might not be correct. If too many things dont add up i would walk away.

I have an N reg GTi and the dials are Black, Thought it was just the cupra's that had silver dials? but then theres plenty of small changes between the models. Wouldn't worry about it
