RAC platinum warranty-raped

If you have read any of my previous posts on this subject, i have the above warranty with a 06 140pd dsg with 48k on the clock with a dodgy turbo and DMF.

Well their 'independent' tech has been out and had a look and the result are now in.

TURBO- Carbon build up causing bearing failure, wont cover due to not a manufactors fault,just wear and tear....48k???

DMF-Only 13mm movement, only replace at 15mm so no go either.

I'm an engineer myself so i will be arguing both of these,mainly the DMF. Reasons because i have 2 years left on the warranty and so if i had ignored the banging and clattering for an other 6 months they would have changed it no probs,but now if i refit the knackered 1 and it seizes causing more damage say the gearbox they wouldnt pay out due to 'an exsisting issue'. So i'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. I have to pay out for the replacement.

Sounds like these aftermarket warranties aren't worth the paper they are printed on.

I'd love to know how much companies like the RAC make on these per year.

I had an AA one on my van, I was covered with AA insurance that said it was a van. When a suspension spring snapped and took out a load of other parts they refused to warranty it due to them not covering vans! I got my money back which was just over £200 but repairs cost twice that.

LOL!! Turbo should definitely be covered by warranty. A turbo is NOT a wear and tear part!!

Im afraid with these after market warranties, nearly everything is "wear and tear"

I read the T's and C's when the OP posted up last time for the warranty

In short, I reckon you could attribute pretty much all mechanical failures to the "exclusions" list

Did you not read it before taking the policy out?

Worst thing is that you're paying interest for the useless warranty if you financed it too

If you don't get anywhere with the company, I'd be having words with the Financial Ombudsman. Although it says it in the T&C's being vague / misleading and basically not covering anything is wrong

do you have legal cover on your house contents? If so, use that.

I made the mistake of taking out extra RAC cover this year- never again!! Absolutely useless!! Can't get me a replacement part as it's a dealer only part, "free" relay home is apparently £485, 48hrs of free car hire is apparently only 24hrs... Just a fantastic bunch to deal with- NOT!!!
