radio no longer working

after the battery was changed i no longer have any radio or climate control, the panel will not light up at all.

any ideas

fuses checked, they all seem fine.

the heater is blowing out hot air although it cant be turned of, so there must be some power getting to it.

i really dont want to take it to the dealers unless i have to

would disconnecting the battery again help, i dont want something else to go wrong if i do

fuses checked and they all seem fine, is it a loose connection? it was all fine until the battery was disconnected

new radio head unit

hi everyone,
as you can see from my last post, since changing the battery i have now lost the radio and climate controls. they dont light up or work.
checked fuses they seem fine so now i am going to have to take it to the stealers to get some advice,
of course i expect them to say i need a new radio/climatronic console, so i am wondering how much this should cost.

any ideas would be appreciated.

thanks

its a 2002 ibiza chill if that helps

I haven't got time to find it for you but if you search you should be able to find an address and contact number of a company that refurbish them for £50 i think it is

after reading some threads i see that the problem may be with a ribbon cable, where would this be??? and would it be affected just by changing the battery??

sorry if i seem thick, i am a nurse and more used to fixing humans than cars!!!

the ribbon cable is behind the faceplate, there's 2 screws at the bottom of the face, undo these and the face will pull off.
Changing the battery will have no affect on this as i've had mine off loads of times without problems, if the cable is the prblem it will be a coincidence.

Have you checked to make sure all wires were connected back up to the battery (cant remember what the standard wiring was like as i've changed a lot of mine)

my brother changed the battery and hes done loads of them, so i am pretty sure that everything went back as it should have.

i am scared to disconnect the battery again in case something else wont work.

i could really do without taking it to the dealers unless i have to but i start a new job next week and really need my car.

i could put up without having a radio for a while, but the heater is blowing out warm air and cant be shut off, really not good when its 20 degrees outside

You should be able to remove the fuse for the heater, remove the cover under the steering wheel and it should tell you on the back which fuse is the heater etc

thanks guys, one last thing i am gonna go to halfords now to get some spare fuses and have a play with swapping them, just to be sure, anyone know what type i need, or should i just take one out and show them

thanks

well i bought new fuses, changed number 29 which should do the radio and still nothing, any ideas

new fuses tried still no radio, help

i went to halfords got some new fuses, replaced the one for the radio and still i have nothing working, is it time to ring the dealers.

i really dont want to pay out lots of money at the moment, but i have no more ideas as to what is wrong

thanks for the advice but i really need to be sure that it is just a faulty unit before i pay out any money.

this seems to be a common problem but in most other posts a simple fuse has been the culprit.

am i missing something??

There are probably 2 fuses for the stereo, you checked them both? Other than that your best bet is to take the unit out and see if its getting power with a multimeter
