I assume from the VW/SEAT workshop manual that the caliper piston has to be screwed in clockwise by the wind back tool. From this I assume you can't just press it back in. There are various tools on the market from £7-30 the higher price buys a large set with various adapters. Anybody got experience & can recommend a tool. Tool number is 3272A.

Yes you cant jusy press it back in. If you dont know which size of adapter you need get a full kit with all adapters.

Oh I did try with a hefty G clamp but it didn't move the manual is very specific about a clockwise wind in tool. I have had other cars with rear disc brakes where the piston is operated by the handbrake & is on a spiral thread that you literally have to screw back in. I'll have to get a tool & try again.

I got one from halfords and it works a treat. Can't remember the make but the halfords near me only does the one and it wasn't too expensive either.

As said, you need a wind back tool as the piston screws into the caliper. Pushing (or trying to) will only cause damage.

Machine Mart do one, as do Halfords, as do Ebay and Amazon.
