Mine are abit smaller and the spacing is different. They shouldn't fail but knowing my luck ....

Cant you just take the car to the MOT station and ask them if its ok (just tell them you bought the car like this and want to check before you go in to MOT) new legal plates (for the mot) are not that expensive

Already the plan. Not illegal, nothing wrong with them. But because it's not to the Gov spec, they could try to fail. I'll be making a trip up to confirm.
