Looked at one in a showroom, and actually tapped the part trying to figure out what it was, and it is deffo plastic.

It's made from Polycarbonate which is a thermoplastic.
It's a very tough hard wearing plastic, which can be used for bullet-proof glass, protective screens etc.

Unfortunately depending on the grade of plastic used it can have a tendancy to scratch extremely easily. Ipod nano anyone?
