rear seatbelt tension

Hi guys

Another problem with my TDI discovered this morning - the rear passenger side seatbelt has absolutely no tension in it whatsoever (i.e. it doesn't retract back into the reel when pulled, and just keeps feeding out).

This is the seatbelt that has got what look like mould spots on it, presumably due to a door leak issue (or similar) in the past.

Is this something I can sort out myself with a screwdriver (e.g. checking the retracting reel in the mechanism - or whatever it is!!!!)

Please help as I am getting hacked off with this, and am almost considering returning the car to the dealers at this rate (duff CD changer, leaky pollen filter, knackered seat belt) and I've only had it a month.

Does it feel reasonably stiff to feed out ?

My Toledo was laid up for a few months last year and all the seatbelts were slow to retract afterwards (mine's also had water leak issues in the past I think)

If you drop the seats and peel back the boot lining, might be worth spraying a little WD40 on the reel mechanism

Thanks mate, I'll give that a try, as it does feel stiff after the first couple of inches retract. Think it's just lost it's springy-ness if that makes sense?

All sorted with a bit of WD40 and a general cleanup.
There's still mould spots on my seatbelts though. Think there must have been a major leak/left standing for ages at some point in its life.
