Anyone had a water leak from under the dashboard behind the glove box? found it today, water all over the mrs's feet when i used the rear washwipe, had a look and its coming from the main wiring loom!! and pouring over the wires connected to the passenger airbag! its an 09 so only just out of warranty but a word with the dealer is needed, design flaw or what. water and electrics do not mix well.

Product safety issue is an ongoing legal requirement on all EU producers

They should help if their product pours water over electrics

If not, pop the bonnet and have a look tracing the pipe, or disconnect it and cap it

Hi,

Did you manage to solve this problem?

I have exactly the same problem.

There's a guid on how to fix a similar issue related to a leak in the rear of the car, but nothing that covers a leak behind the passenger Dash (leaking into the passenger footwell).

I had a look myself, but can't seem to find the pipes behind the dash.

HI There
It's possible that water freezing in the washer pipe system will break-open couplings and lead to leaks, as per VW MK4 golf.

The recommendation is to run the correct amount of washer fluid additive through the winter period. The (right) additive resists freezing.

I may be wrong about this being the cause of your problem but it's worth flagging!

Hi,The rear washer hose runs behind the dash and sometimes rubs on the metal mountings for the dash causing pipe to split and leak the only fix is to remove the dash and repair the washer tubing then refit the dash cheers

Yes, and do it before the weather gets cold running the front and rear washers so that the winter strength solution gets through the pipes pushing out all the old weak stuff which could freeze.

I speak from experience. On an old Metro I had the pipe from body to tailgate froze and split because the stuff in the pipe was too weak even though the stuff in the tank was strong enough!

My guess is that on the Ibiza the pipes/jets in the tailgate freeze up and the pressure from the pump blows the joints open.

No doubt the pipes can freeze up and cause this problem but the thread was started mid August 2012 and I don't recall any sub-zero temps then. Before the two mk5 Ibiza's I owned a mk2, mk3 and a mk4, all of them suffered from this problem. I put it down to the plastic of the joints ageing as all the previous Ibiza's only suffered this past three years old.

Doubtless more than one cause is possible. I seem to recall similar comments being more common in the winter!
