Just wondering - I have a 5P altea and the wife has a 2001 Polo. So at the moment I don't think there is a cable that will do both cars. My plan is to buy an official ross tech cable (usb can something, which will register the vag com program) for my car and a cheapo one from ebay to talk to the polo. Will I be able to use the ebay cable on the polo and get the full version of vag com?

Anyone think of a better way of doing it?

Thanks,

Jon

Ah Ok - thanks I hadn't seen that. Would the combination of cables work though? Looking at the sums, the HEX+CAN is ~50 quid more than the micro CAN, so if I get a micro CAN and an ebay cable I'd save 30-40 quid.

Micro-CAN +3rd party will only come with a software license for the Micro-CAN and not for the 3rd party one. So you would need to buy a separate software license. There are several reasons behind that, while the most important one is simply that 3rd party hardware doesn't work with current versions.

Hi,

Just wanted to add to this. I searched around on ebay and weighed up the pros and cons of saving a bit of cash, but I bought the genuine cable HEX-CAN-USB cable, really can't fault this "toy". Support the work that Ross-tech has put into it and buy the real deal.

I've scanned loads of cars at work and for friends, it'll even talk to my mums 1996 Cordoba! My 05 altea's windows were not set correctly. sorted that in 5mins with the info on the Ross-tech wiki. Found the fault on a friends Altea with the cruise control. now sorted under warranty The other halves Ibiza got a scan b4 we handed over the cash, the dealer looked a bit bemused!

Well worth the cash in my opinion.

Cheers
