only if it is on the car when the ecu is plugged in to diagnostics.

if it has been removed no issues.

Would it alter a checksum though? Just like returning a remapped car back to the factory map.

Not the case at all, every time the ecu is flashed it leaves a trace which is pointless as the first time you flash the software TD1 is triggered and if this is detected by VAG your drive train warranty will be voided.

Thats not right at all, TD1 flag which cant be removed by dealer or read by dealer going from the info ive been given.
TD1 is detected by VAG HQ over the water.

When your car is plugged in at the dealer they data dump the ECU. At dealer level the tech can add notes to your cars file highlighting his concerns over certain parameters but he cant flag your car TD1. Thats a job for those over the water at HQ.

Tuning boxes intercept and manipulate the return signal from the various sensors they are attached to on your cars engine, the ecu then compensates for this loss by adding value and HEY PRESTO more power and no warranty issues if something does go wrong ( even if its got nothing to do with the box )

If your looking to make hardware changes to your car such as intercooler, big turbo, injectors etc, then you need to have a remap to get all those parts working right.

If your just looking for stage 1 and your car is with warranty go the box route. Figures are much the same so i dont see the issue with them.

I run an Octy VRs 184 with a box on for over 19k miles and dynoed at almost 240hp and 370ft/lb. It goes very well indeed.

My car has been connected to dealer software....

I also have a paper copy of the official TD1 documentation at home.

I have a bluefin and before i go in for a service i'll flash it back to normal. Does the dealer make you aware after the service that the ECU has thrown up a flag? did you request the documentation?
