Just been behind a 14 plate golf gtd who decided to give it some beans. Was quite impressed with the performance of the golf compared to my fr. I know I had a bit more bhp around 200bhp but I only gained on him slightly tho he couldn't pull away. I'm looking at a new leon just wondering what these cars map too reliably. Though standard seemed quick. Alot lighter than a mk2 I suppose.

Personal preference' I'd push as much as you can on your clutch providing there's no black smoke' this differed from different tuners and the quality of the map
I had a 2007 leon fr and it had 220 bhp. It had been remapped and had the DPF removed. If yours has had DPF deleted i presume you have had the DPF removed if not this is dangerous. Mine did used to smoke abit when i floored it but it pulled like a train. Did struggle to put the power down though so dont think it could of handled much more.the golf GTD is exactly the same engine he may of also had it mapped. Mine compared to standard was alot quicker.

First of all your 07 fr is a PD engine pump deuse which had a dpf thrown on just as the dpf regulation came out. It never worked well and to tune it to it's potential meant a DPF delete was required (I was one of the first to have this done 7 years ago) the OP has a CR which is a common rail engine for post 09 leon mk2 fr 170,s it was designed with the dpf in place and was a lot easier to tune with dpf in place. Also a 14 plate GTD will have the 2.0 tdi 184 bhp engine as standard as at that age it will be a mk7 gtd

I am aware that mine was the pd engine it was the same power as the common rail versions and it makes no difference my point was asking if the guy had his DPF Removed as he said he has DPF delete ,If you just deleted it and not had it removed it will not regen and just collect soot particles and will eventually block and restrict the engine. Fact. I have worked on seats for years and have seen this before. Your right about the 14 plate golf having the 184bhp engine in. I didnt read that bit properly. My friend has the 184 bhp leon and it was not as quick as my leon when i had it.
And don't ever run your car with DPF in place and it been mapped out the software, could pump diesel down the exhaust still and could cause a fire believe it or not
Yes thats how they are done. Cut open ,knocked out and welded back up. Then mapped out.
Not strictly true adding a downpipe in place of the hollowed DPF sees more gains but with the new dpf regulation in place maybe not worth the risk

Hi Peter, yes the new 184 engine maps very well and as its not a complete rework, its also reliable, ive yet to hear anyone bitch and moan about a GTD or FR yet, which is more than I can say for the TSI engine
Shark and Revo say you can get 220 from a stage 1, which is a figure I can believe, unlike many dpf deleted figures I see posted for mk2's. I dont think anyone has released a stage 2 for it yet, but I wouldnt expect more than 230 given how more efficient the dpf relationship should be with even newer generation.
As youve stated the mqb platform is lighter, just checking the standard 0-60 times backs this up, I believe its half a second faster, which is definitely noticeable on the speedo, even if you dont feel it in your pants (if you go for test drive) as the newer models seem to be a solid'er construction and make-up.
Good luck hunting for new car if you're planning on doing so, however please note current rumour train puts the current crop of vag hatches in line for a facelift in 2016.
