the clios are awesome little cars. very nippy and handle like a go kart had some fun in the old 182 miss that. showed a few cars how to do it lol.

@ben450 the build quality of the 182 we had was fine. nothing wrong with it at all and reliability was top notch not a thing wrong. renault sports are built in a different factory to standard renaults, now thats a different story on reliability.

My mates old 182 was a quick wee car but the build quality was shocking for a 55 plate car. It rattled like a junkie on a come down and squeaked all over the place. The fuel consumption was unreal as well he said, his old 197 was just as bad.

Strange about the fuel consumption comment - mine did mid thirties all day long, and 42-44 on a fast motorway run (which it did a few of)

I miss it the most of all my previous cars.

I like the new megane 265s but after the saxo kind of put me off I'm sure there not all bad though. German is def the way forward tho although I'm well impressed with Vauxhalls my 2001 vectra Sri was the most reliable car I've owned will miss it on Sunday when it goes.

Mork, the 182's fuel economy is crap compared to 172's. I've no idea what they changed to make the fuel economy suffer, it just did as a result of the other bits and pieces.

I had a run with a mapped LCR 279 dyno and my type r was standard and we were level up 120. Defo type r can keep up!!

Scary stuff. People always bang on about 260bhp 300lbs torque. In paper a mapped LCR should destroy it ! I liked by type r but too basic for me. Uncomfortable and noisy I must be getting old

Other stuff thast has suprised me:

In my old 380hp Sapphire cosworth, An Alfa 156 2.5v6 driven by a mentalist in his 50's
a TVR tuscan speed six (expectedly)
A Classic Impreza Sti

In my old E39 M5 - A new shape Subaru Impreza sti hatch - carried so much more speed through the roundabouts it was no contest.
A Vauxhall Monaro CV8 - was simply faster in a straight line from 30-90 couldnt understand it..

In Cupra R - besides 182, A Mk4 R32 which had a good turn of speed despite extra weight and hp deficit.

How difficult is it to drive these cars? Just mash your foot to the floor and let the turbo / traction control sort everything else out....

not so simple , tcs/esp slow you down in the real world, mash your foot just get you loads of wheel spin and very slow progression foward, best launch is to hold revs at about 3500-4000 rpm using a bit clutch to aid traction don't redline it first. its a about feel

But from what the OP said we are talking about a rolling start, not a 0-60 sprint?

Personally I don't think there is a lot of driver skill in getting from 20 to illegal speeds, unless the road is really wet or tyres are totally shagged.

No the R32 didnt beat me but it was quite close.

All encounters were rolling start and included corners/roundabouts and straights..

I wasnt as confident cornering foot flat in the rwd cars as i would be in fwd admittedly as im a reasonably ok driver but no Senna.

Well next weekend I'm at Santa Pod and hopefully gonna take down the strip against my mates Clio 197 Cup, I know for a start he'll get a better start (roughly 0.5s quicker 0-60) but hopefully the little extra power and torque catches him before the 1/4 finish lol :D. Just wish mine was remapped though lol.
