Okay, maybe i'm being completely retarded here, but how difficult can it be to remap a car?
The car is running on software, which is transferred via a computer and cable, so if one could get hold of the software, theoretically they could upload it to their ECU and map their car themselves?

*Awaits mockery*....

Noooo :)
Takes a lot of knowledge of a lot of parameters, not to mention practical knowledge to actually carry it out.
Leave it to the pros

i remapped my R6 myself.

after hours of trying to figure it out, i have an awesome delivery of constant and smooth power in 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

1st would hit 7k rpm and die untill 8k and then go full whack and throw it up at 12oclock position.
5th and 6th seemed the same as they were.

so yes, its possible to do yourself.

ok, might be a bike v a car but id have thought it would be the same principle.

You need SOLID computer software/programing skills and you need SOLID understanding of how an injection system works. A lot of the modern ECU's have tuning protection so good skills in cracking is also required.

After this, I can say you have just covered about 20% of the job :)
(a pro, please correct me if I am wrong)

Doing it wrong could mean a disaster, both for your car and for you. What will happen if during a close takeover, you get a misfire or something like that and you loose power...

Leave it to pros, you can get a stage1 for about 400 EUR so I don't think it's worth it...
:)

It's cool if you want to do it but you will need to learn a lot first about how the whole thing works. As said it's easy to wreck things, the ecu is fine, you can get them off ebay for cheap but you can do lots more damage to the rest of the engine and that can be expensive.
It's not a case of just turning up the fuel and boost, it's altering the whole injection, timing, fuel quantity etc and tweaking the boost but keeping it in line with the fueling and not over doing it.
My tuner has been doing it a long time now and even a simple bit of kit can cost £2000 and you need more than one part lol.

Anyway sign up and get reading and asking if you want.
