Revo and others (CC,, Jabba, etc) have many years experience doing remaps. They have spend a lot of time and money developing their code to work safely with your engine. Do you even know what your mate is going to put on your car or what it will do.

Personally unless he is an authorised dealer from a recogonised company I wouldn't let him do it.

he has said he will take a reading from my ecu then send the details to the company that do the remapping they will turn it all up to what they think is best( keeping a copy of the original if i ever want to go back) and then he will put the new data on.
sound any good ??

Slick is right.....mate you dont wanna wreck your engine.......

most places offer a trial of software...your better off trying out remaps from different companies.........for example we just had a 6 hr trial of APR 1.8T (150bhp to 196bhp) from AwesomeGti nr manchester.....

check where your nearest remap company is...........and go to a recommended garage!
you cant afford to mess around with it!:D

I have to agree with the above.
There is so many things that he could do wrong for you.
To replace the engine or ECU is not a cheap option.
As with most things cheapest is not always the best.
Do a bit of research in to this.
The best thing to do is call people and ask questions.
If they say erm...dont know or dont reply back with some answers then it may be worth looking somewhere else.

Not worth the risk really, is it? For £320 (or was the offer when i last looked) Jabba will properly sort out you motor. Let alone unknown, even some of the 'lesser known' tuning names get it wrong sometimes, not revo, jab, cc, forge, apr etc, but i've heard tales of old code being put on new cars by smaller companies with troublesome results, people then end up at CC or jabba having it fixed!

Also, tweaking a naturally aspirated M3 is somewhat different. i.e. on a turbo car its a lot easier to just wind up the boost and make it go pop. You need to know fueling etc is spot on to avoid the engine running lean and burning a hole in a piston or something equally tragic!

i asked him about the warranty and he said no warranty is required as he is only turning up the peramiters within my factory settings, and he gets his software from chip tune? apparently been around for fifteen years anyone ever heard of them ?

I dunno, but i can smell something fishy in the air, personally I'd go with a company with a background an office number and address to be honest... at least u have something to fall back onto then....

If they don't provide warranty and it messes up you'll be looking at £1000 to send you car back to Seat UK plus £740 for a new ECU. That was what I was facing last year when I had a problem with an old remap done on my car before it had been imported. Luckily the company that tried to remap my car before I picked it up managed to identify the problem and fix it without any further cost.

So I totally agree that you should make 100% certain of who's doing it, if they're credible and what they'll offer in case it all goes wrong before letting them touch your car.
