seems confusing here a little the 'soft' recode (5 flash) is only for the central locking remote not the immobiliser itself, just for locking the doors

the immobiliser is passive and stuck inside the key and will need the chip cloned or diag activated to start the car

both systems run seperately

i think it's type1 (4 digit) iirc but ill check

I have tried this...

sit in car - doors closed

1 ignition on to red lights on dash
2 turn off immediately and pull key out
3 hold 1 of the buttons down (dont matter which)
4 PRESS the other 3 times ( with a SLIGHT pause) 1 . 2 . 3
5 watch led on key (should flash) and doors usually try lock/unlock
6 turn ignition key back on to red lights and wait 5 sec
7 key out again and test operation

but at stage 5 the doors do not try and lock/unlock

Can't get my central locking to work remotly :(
All doors are opened manually with the key, so that works.

Hello everybody!
I had the same problem with my cupra 2 '98...first thing that went wrong was locking mechanism on codriver's door- the stupid air "cylinder" or how can i call it, had a leak...i had to buy another one(second hand 30€, new costs 120€ at local dealer)...great, i installed it, try to lock it, everything worked fine, except of the remote...
I tried to solve the problem with all methods posted in this thread, and eventually i realised that i was doing something wrong->
according to first step by step recoding you should do exactly what it says->
1. turn egnition to red lights AND
2. then immidiately turn it off <- that is the important part
.
.
.

at first i waited for a couple of seconds before i turned it off(and then nothing happened if i hold down one and pressed another button for 3 times, except the led was flashing on remote) so make sure you are doing it right!

thanx a lot for this solution, F2 Ed. it really helped me:coolthumb

A very very big thanks to F2 Ed and fructal for their help! I own a Seat Ibiza '99 (MKII) and I had tried at least 5-6 differnet ways to re-program my remote key (which had suddenly stopped months ago). None of them worked until I tried F2 Ed's way with the extra advice of fructal! Thank you!

Oh my god, THANK YOU!!! I have registered to post this one and only post, and that is that THE ABOVE WORKS..... normally i search the forums for solutions to certain specific problems, only to be frustrated at how none of the suggestions work..... but the above works. First time.

To clarify the above, keys to ignition, then straight off, then fairly quickly hold one button, press then other button 3 times.... release all buttons, the key will flash 5 times and you'll be in business.

I was doing the hold the button press 3 times thing over and over and over, the lights were flashing 5 times but nothing..... I'd done it with the key in the ignition, in the door, after leaving the engine on for 5 seconds, all sorts........ the important part is ignition to red lights then straight off, this WORKS!!

Thank you very much, I hope anybody else reading this has the same success.

hello guys i just registered to post this! Thank you all from the bottom of my heart cause i did it and thankfully the remote control now works! Story is i got in and tried again and again all the steps above and nothing happened! But as i was still inside i wondered if the batteries i just replaced were trully >3 volts. So i disassemble my key and eventually cut the battery supply and then it happened! i did the prosses once more and it worked!!!! thanx again (i knew the car had no problem!:p)

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and this appears to be the best place to post this one!! I have a 1998 Cupra which can (manually) lock but will not unlock on the key. Which then involves opening the boot, putting the key in the door and turning it so the alarm is switched off and clambering through the boot to open the door. Any suggestions?

Firstly the car is a 1999 Seat Ibiza 1.9TDi, it has a Siemens 5wK4 system on 433.92MHz.

The remote had been a bit iffy for a while (needing multiple attempts and firm pressing to operate), this worsened and now the remote is inoperative.

The central locking does work and operates all locks when using the N/S and O/S door locks.

I replaced the batteries (2x CR2016) with new.

I followed the following procedure for re-programming the key:

Keys in ignition to POS1. Then immediately remove.
Press and hold one of the remote buttons whilst slowly pressing the other 3 times.
The key fob LED flashes 5 times to confirm sync.
The door locks should close/open.
Then keys back in the ignition back to POS1 and the procedure should be complete.

The door locks do not open/close and the fob does not appear to sync.

I obtained another key and attempted to re-sync using the same procedure to no avail.

I checked the feed and earth is good to the remote central locking box - they were fine.

I bought a new/old stock Siemens remote control receiver unit and swapped for the original item.

I can still not get either of the keys to code with either of the boxes! In every instance I can get the fob to flash 5 times but the locks do not cycle open/closed.

Please can you guys help me and hopefully I can get the damned thing working!

I have rung a number if auto-electricians and auto-locksmiths and I have had wonderful suggestions like "rip all the locks out and buy new ones from Seat"!!!

I really do think I have follwed all the suggestions on this thread but its just not happening!

Hi Fisher,
I have tried the exact same process as well as many others to no avail. Seems like we are in a similar position. Have you had any luck since your post...?

Thanks!

I dont understand that you do it on door lock after leaving engine ignition fastly??
