remote key not working but spare key is! HELP PLEASE!!!

hi guys need some saving. we've had a fair bit of bad weather in glasgow so i wasnt able to drive the car. i went out yesterday, unlocked the car via remote locking, key in the igniton, car fired up then just stopped a second later. i noticed that the car immobilser symbol was flashing confirmed via vagcom. tried several times but no luck.

i then tried my spare key which is a manual key and hey presto it de-mobilised the car straight away.

can anyone please help as to why the original key isnt working and how i can get it to work?

i just dont want to be stranded with only one key working.

the spare key has a seven digit code on its tag.

Sounds like its lost its coding! You may need a new fob or it might just need coding again!

Saving grace for you.

You need full vag com and then the key can be re-matched to the car, very strange how it as gone out of sync.

theres a thread on here somewhere that shows you how to code a key. something like sticking it in the ignition and locking/unlocking the car with the spare key. something along those lines lol.good luck

That is for the remote unlocking, not the immobiliser side of it

can you lock/unlock it manually with the original key? as i also have a problem with my remote locking, the red lights flashed when fob pressed but no response, but it does open manually

yeah the remote part of the key is working fine but the chip in the key is not turning the immobiliser off.


update, - i managed to take the chip out my spare key and put it into my main remote key. all works fine altho problem being that i dont have a proper spare key working now.

had a look with regards to the coding but cant find a simple instructional guide, plus ross tech site shows different key versions. ive ordered two new fobs from ebay so will need to get them cut and programmed asap.
